Save the Bears Project: Cambodia

This volunteer program involves a group of 10 Animal Science students travelling to Cambodia to spend 3 weeks volunteering on the Save The Bears project, which is run by the Free The Bears fund. This program will expose the students to a large scale conservation project in a developing country.

Indicative program outline:
Students will help with building new enrichments, repairing and maintaining the bears' enclosures, and cleaning of the area surrounding the enclosures. The students will work with the local keepers preparing and distributing the bears' food, and making enrichment items for the bears. The sanctuary is located at the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, 40km from the capital Phnom Penh. Twenty one forested enclosures have been built over 7 hectares to house more than 110 Sun bears and Asiatic black bears.
