Cost: Approx $2500.00* - 2013 program costing

*The $500 Vice Chancellor Travel Grant is not awarded directly to students but has already been included in program costings.

Costs should include: international flights, visas (for students travelling on Australian passports), in-country transport, professional guides, in-country accommodation

Costs do not include CSU subject fee, meals, drinks, passports or vaccinations.

Eligibility: Fourth year Bachelor of Agricultural Science students (including Honours students).

Credit Arrangements:   Students electing to participate in the tour will enroll in SCI301 as one of the electives available in the 4th year of your degree. Students will be required to conduct a project during the tour on an agricultural component/issue of interest to them. A written report on the tour and presentations to the student cohort will also be assessed. (more details of the assessment tasks are be available from Jason Condon).

Program Outline:

Based in the Mekong Delta, the tour visits a leading Vietnamese University and includes lectures and field trips covering: rice, fruit and animal production. The financial, social and environmental aspects of Vietnamese agriculture will also be covered and experienced during lectures and farm visits. Other activities include a visit a dairy company to investigate their advanced extension system responsible for improving breeding, housing and production of dairy cattle. Students will gain exposure to the fishery industry, international aid/research projects, various horticultural enterprises, and agricultural supply chains. Several days will also be spent visiting sites relevant to Australian history (eg, Long Tan) and other site seeing activities.  A detailed itinerary is available to successful applicants of the tour .
