Hot Tips!
Tyre Pressure
Bike tyres usually have the minimum and maximum air pressure (psi) for the tyre type on the outside rim. If you are riding on hard flat surfaces (i.e. road), keep your tyre pressure close to the maximum.
Lights
As a cyclist, visibility is imperative to safe cycling. A strong front light and rear red back light should be used during early morning, late afternoon and evening light. It is a good idea to have your lights on at all times of the day to increase your visbility to drivers.
A great site for choosing front and rear lights is through the Ride On review at http://rideons.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/top-50-lights-for-commuting
High Visibility Clothing
Fluro or vibrant block coloured clothing increases your visibility to drivers during both the daylight hours and night time hours.
Clothing that contains luminescent strips are great in lowlight and dark periods. Luminescent strips shine when car lights are directed to them, indicating a cyclist or pedestrian.
Correct Seat Height
The correct seat height is important in making the journey on your bike enjoyable and reduce the time to exhaustion. You place the heel of your shoe on the pedal and set the saddle height so your leg is straight at the bottom of the pedal cycle with the pelvis remaining in a horizontal position.
There are other methods of determining the correct seat height, which you can find at http://www.bikeradar.com/fitness/article/technique-how-to-get-your-seat-height-right-14608/
