Our initiatives - Waste Management
By 2014 CSU aims to recover 70% of its solid waste, as opposed to sending it to landfill. Help us achieve this by utilising the following resources.

Recycling at your Campus
Co-mingled recycling is available at most campuses or is in the process of being introduced. Recycling prevents our valuable resources from ending up in landfill and is less energy intensive than creating a new product from scratch. Find out more about recycling at your specific campus:
Phone recycling
Phones can be recycled on most campuses, with charities benefitting from the proceeds. Staff can send phones ready for recycling by internal mail to Cedric Locke (DIT Wagga) or drop them at the Mobile phone recyle drop off points.
Computer disposal
Disposal of University computers is coordinated through the Division of Information Technology (DIT) Computer Shop. DIT either recycle or on-sell these computers.
More information is available on the DIT Computer Shop website.
Paper
For more than three years the paper used in the offices on the largest CSU campuses was produced (100%) from recycled paper. This was the initiative of the Bathurst Environmental group members, who arranged testing of the usability of different brands of recycled paper and promoted their findings to CSU stores' staff.
The Division of Learning and Teaching Services has moved to double-sided printing for the online assignment submission service (EASTS) and for drafts of distance education materials. This has reduced the use of paper by approximately 500,000 sheets per year.
The University has been moving to multi-function - printing, faxing and scanning - machines that can lessen the use of paper through better double-sided copying. These multi-function machines are also much cheaper to run.
Paper recycling is available at all campuses.
DIT have put together some helpful tips on ways to reduce your paper consumption - check them out here.
What you can do
Tips:
- Use whatever recycling systems are available to you.
- Reduce your use of paper: only print when necessary and print double-sided when you can.
- Take your lunch in a reusable container and take your own mug for coffee.

Electronic Christmas cards
Save money, energy and time by sending electronic Christmas cards this year!
There are four card styles available to download, using the links below. Simply click on the card of your choice, select "Open", and your chosen e-card will open in an email, ready for you to add your personal message and send.
Electronic Christmas Card - Style 1
Electronic Christmas Card - Style 2
Electronic Christmas Card - Style 3
Electronic Christmas Card - Style 4
Note that the border on card styles 3 and 4 may look out of alignment when you open them, but this will automatically fix itself when you send the email.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the e-cards are based on the Outlook message format, Mac users may have some difficulties opening the cards. We apologise for the inconvenience, and are currently working to try and fix this issue.
