Points for good Video Conference practice
Room environment- Remove clutter from background and foreground of participants, as high clutter will reduce the quality of Video
- The room should be well lit to provide the best image at the far end
- You should prevent daylight from entering the room, close blinds if possible, daylight and electric lighting do not mix well with Video Conferencing
- Warm grade fluorescent lights are recommended for best quality
- Furniture and walls should be of dull colours, again to give the best quality video image
- Participants should be dressed in dark plain colours. Stripes are not recommended.
- Participants should fill at least half the screen to allow good viewing at the far end sites. It is important that other sites can see your facial expressions and body laguage.
Microphone
- The Microphone should be place between 1 and 2 metres from the participants
- The red light on top of the microphone means that it is muted, the Video Conference unit should be set to mute when starting new calls.
Remote control
- Controls everything on the Video Conference unit
- Volume
- Microphone Mute
- Camera Pan Tilt and Zoom
- Camera Presets
- Making calls and disconnection
Camera
- Is placed on top of the Video Conference unit and can be controlled by the user and in some circumstances by the far end participants.
Thing to remember
If you are hearing a lot of noise from a far site you need to be proactive and inform them, as they do not often know they are causing a disturbance.
Often the Video Conference units turn on the microphone mute automatically and people don’t know they are muted, the red light on the microphone means you are muted.
