Previously Lyn was Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Her research interests include media history, particularly the emergence and development of mass media and their social and political impact, also Australian media and the Cold War, Australian television history and Australian media policy; international relations, especially Australian-French relations during the Second World War; twentieth-century French history; and online resources for history teaching and research.
Lyn is co-author, with David McLean, of Media and Society in the Twentieth Century: An Historical Introduction (Blackwell, USA, 2003), also published as Media e societa nel mondo contemporaneo (il Mulino, Italy, 2005). She has published in reference works and refereed journals on the mass media and on television history, particularly Australian television during the Cold War; on war and society in France, especially the role of French ex-servicemen of the First World War during the 1920s and 1930s, and on military history; on rural and regional history; and on historical methodology. She has co-authored reference volumes in Greenwood Press religion and theological reference series. She has published in popular media, including a number of articles related to the NSW HSC Online project. She has been actively involved in developing online resources through her work with the NSW HSC Online project; she is presiding officer of the project’s Board of Management.
