Welcome to Bridgit @ CSU
The Software Used To Data Conference.
What is data conferencing? Data conferencing is a means by which you can share your desktop with many remote users simultaneously.
Why? Well, what if you need to do a computer presentation such as a Powerpoint presentation during a videoconference? Then you would use the Bridgit software. Alternatively, if you have something on your computer which you need to show others remote from you then use Bridgit and audio conference with them.
How do you get and use the software? CSU has purchased licences for two CSU Bridgit servers that are available at all times for one or many conferences simultaneously.
Follow these simple steps to download and use the software
- Click this link http://bridgit.csu.edu.au/bridgit.exe.
(Mac users click here to download a zip file containing the bridgit client.) - At the next prompt click Open. (You can also choose save and when prompted save the application to your desktop where you can run it whenever you need)
- When prompted for the Bridgit server, type in bridgit.csu.edu.au then click on Connect.
- Now click Create and give your conference a name. (You can use your name, the name of the presentation, the name of the topic, or any name you wish)
- If you want, you can apply a password at this stage but remember to tell all your participants. This is not mandatory.
- Enter your name or site, click Ok, and await your other participants. Tell other participants which server you are using.
- Finally, share out your desktop by pressing the Share Desktop button. All your arrow and drawing tools will appear on a small toolbar which you can move around on the screen by clicking in the blue bar and holding and dragging at the same time.
- Run your presentation.
- When you are finished simply close the toolbar and you will be asked if you want to exit the conference. This will cease sharing your desktop.
How to join an existing conference
- Once the software has been installed following the steps above, double click the Bridgit icon on the desktop.
- View the active conferences on the screen, click once on the conference which you wish to join and click Join. You will then be asked for a name for this participant.
- Await the presentation. You can now choose to receive the presentation in full screen mode by clicking the Full Screen button on the tool bar are toggling between the two layouts by using Alt + f.
Notes
- All conference participants have a coloured pen on their toolbar so if you want you can select that pen and draw on yours and therefore everyone’s screen. This is not permanent and will disappear when the host refreshes the screen.
- There is an eraser and an arrow. Please experiment with their uses. To go back to your mouse pointer click on the arrow on the toolbar.
- If you are sharing pictures you may want to share at a higher colour resolution. Click the drop-down box next to the share desktop button on the toolbar.
