Guidelines for What's New & News Service

Introduction

What's New & News is a daily information service for the CSU community provided by the Division of Information Technology. What's New & News is published each week day at 9:30am.

The role of What's New & News is to provide an electronic communication service for official CSU notices, as well as information of interest to the CSU community. These guidelines have been produced by the Customer Service Management Unit within the Division of Information Technology, who are responsible for managing the What's New & News Service.

Message Categories

What's News messages are divided into 4 primary categories:

Daily What's New & News Deadline

The deadline for What's New & News is 9:20am Monday to Friday. Messages received after 9:20am will appear in the following days What's New & News summary. Messages received and approved before 9.20 am will appear in the Daily Summary, which is released at 9:30am. What's New & news is run daily Monday to Friday. There are no weekend summaries posted.

When a message is posted by a staff member or student, it is queued to a message list which is reviewed by DIT. Messages which meet the What's New & News guidelines will be approved and submitted for the next What's New & News summary. Message which are not approved, will be deleted and will not appear in the next What's New & News summary

Drafting What's New & News Messages

When drafting a message for Whats New & News, please be aware of the following -

Posts for Commercial or Private Businesses

Messages advertising goods and/or services for Commercial or Private Businesses are not permitted to be posted to the What's New & News Service. This includes outside CSU commercial interests of staff and students.

Use of the Classified/Others section to sell goods

The What's New & News Service Classified/others section is for use only by CSU Staff and Students wishing to sell unwanted goods, such as 2nd hand items, garage sales etc. Staff/Students are not to post messages on behalf of members of the public or persons not directly related to CSU or provide any contact details other than their own.

Staff/Students may post messages only on behalf of immediate family members, and only under the staff member's /student's details.

Posts for Community Organisations

Messages advertising events or services on behalf of a community organisation are permitted, on the basis that such events can be deemed to be of significant interest to the CSU community, as determined by DIT. All such messages are only to be posted as "Classified/Other" category messages.

Agreements with external entities

Any arrangements/agreements in which a CSU entity has agreed to publicise events, services or goods on behalf of an external entity or organisation is not to include using the What's New & News service.

DIT will refuse to release any messages posted on behalf of an external entity, unless the CSU entity involved has sought prior approval, in writing, from the Manager, Customer Service Management, Division of Information Technology, or their nominee.

Further Information

The Division of Information Technology reserves the right to reject any message submitted for the Whats New & News Service, if it is determined that the message is not within the guidelines set down or is in breach of the CSU Code of Conduct.
