Popular productivity apps for Android

There are a wide range of both free and paid apps to help meet your mobile business requirements. A list of popular productivity apps is provided in the table below for your convenience.

Access to and payment for these apps is via the Google Playstore, using either a CSU corporate credit card or previously purchased Google Play gift card. Some apps are only available through the developers website. Selection of the most relevant app and payment is the responsibility of the school, faculty or division.

University data stored on or accessed from Android devices remains the responsibility of the owner. Storing confidential CSU data on these devices should be avoided where possible.

Access CSU services
Yammer

Yammer brings together CSU staff, content and conversations in a single convenient location. Yammer offers you an intelligent and efficient way to connect with the information and people that you need to get work done. Collaborate and share ideas together in real time, no matter where you are. There are many CSU groups on Yammer.

Connect to CSU Thin Client to access standard applications from your Android device.

Office Talk

Office Talk lets you connect to CSUs Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) and have access to Communicator functions from your Android like sending and receiving Instant Messages, checking the status of a contact, adding multiple staff to a chat window and more.

There is also a free version which contains ads.

When prompted for a server name enter cwa.csu.edu.au

 

Picus WAV Player

Voicemails from the CSU phone system are attached to emails as WAV files. Android has no built in support for WAV files. You can use this app to open the attachments and listen to CSU voicemail messages from your Android. It can also play other types of audio files including mp3, mp4, m4a, aac and ogg.

This app gives you a 15 day free trial of the full version, after this time it restricts some of the capabilties. If you need the additional features purchase the Picus WAV player unlocker to remove the limitations and return to full functionality.

Telstra 24/7

 

This app can be used by those with and without CSU paid plans. It enables you to keep an eye on your usage each month.

Simply download the app, enter your My Account details and you’re ready to go! To set up My Account, tap the Register button in the login screen after installing the app or alternatively visit telstra.com/myaccount from a PC.

View and annotate PDFs
Adobe Reader

Access, manage and share a variety of PDF types including PDF Portfolios, password protected documents, fillable forms and Adobe LiveCycle rights managed PDF.  You can sign, complete forms, annotate and comment. 

Sign My Pad

SignMyPad is a PDF signature tool for Android that allows you to sign, save and send documents without worrying about printing, faxing or scanning them.

iAnnotate PDF

Aldiko Book Reader

The leading eBook application for the Android platform. Pre-installed in 20+ different Smartphones and Tablets. There is also a premium version available.

File storage
DropBox

Dropbox can be used to store files and is especially useful if you work cross-platform. Dropbox for Android gives you previews of your documents, photos, and media. You can open your documents in whatever app you have installed that supports that type of media.
