Pharos Release Stations

Pharos Release Stations are located near the printers in the Learning Commons, Libraries and Computer Labs on each CSU campus.

Pharos Release stations allow you to login and release your print job or delete it from the Pharos queue if you need to make changes or it is no longer required. You will find this useful if

If you no longer require a document sent to the printer you can delete it from the Pharos queue.  If you delete it from the Pharos queue you will not be charged for it.  Once you release it from the Pharos Release station the cost will be deducted from your printing account.

You must ensure you keep enough credit on your printing account to be able to print.  If you run out of printing credit you will not be able to print.  You can check your printing account balance on any Pharos station at any time.

Please check your document paper size before printing.

Available paper sizes are A4 and A3.

Print Preview

You should always check how your document looks before printing it by using Print Preview (File, Print Preview or use the Print Preview button on the quick access toolbar). This is especially important when printing a web page as they do not always print how they appear on screen. It is often better to copy and paste the required text and/or pictures into a Word document, then print the information. This allows you to control how it looks and sometimes you can print less pages by removing white space, reducing font size and removing any unnecessary items. Dont forget to copy and paste the URL of the website into the Word document so you have a record of where the information was obtained from.

Can I use my CSUCard to pay for printing?

No your CSUCard is used to pay for photocopying not printing.  Your printing account is separate to your photocopying credit.

Troubleshooting

After I release my print job a message appears on the printer screen “Load Paper in Tray 1 A4 Plain/Recycled” and my document does not print

This means the printer is out of paper. Contact Student Central to advise that the printer needs a paper refill.  Your document wont print until the paper has been refilled.  You can delete it from the Pharos Station and choose to print to another printer if you don’t have time to wait.

Why doesn’t the document I printed appear in the Pharos queue?

Print IconIf you are printing a PDF document you must use the print icon (see icon on right) in the Adobe Reader toolbar or in the Acrobat Professional toolbar (depending on what program you are using).  If you use the File, Print method it will not print.  Always use the print icon to print.

Do you have printing credit?

Log into a Pharos Station and check your printing balance.  If you have printing credit restart the computer you are using and try again, if you still cant print log off that computer and try to print from another computer.

If you are using a CSU student wireless laptop, make sure the wireless is turned on.  Is the wireless light lit, can you access the Internet on it?  If wireless is turned on and you can’t print try a CSU Desktop computer to see if you can print from it.  If you can’t print from the laptop but can print from a desktop computer please report this to Student Central.  Please advise the name or number of the laptop you are using and when returning it advise the counter staff that you have reported to Student Central that it’s not printing so they can arrange for it to be investigated.

Why hasn’t my document printed? I have released it from Pharos

Please check the printer to see if there is a red error light and if there is an error message on its screen.  Student printers are unable to print documents that are not correctly formatted. Check to make sure you have selected the correct paper size (either A4 or A3).  If you created the document yourself on a CSU computer A4 is the default paper size and you will not have this problem unless you have purposely changed the paper size.  If the document you are trying to print was provided by someone else you need to check the paper size, if letter is selected it will not print.

For information on how to check the paper size please see the answer below this question - Why does the message “Paper Size/Type Mismatch appear on the printer screen?

What Causes This Error Message?

trouble-2

This error is caused by typing your username or password incorrectly. Type your username and password in again carefully.  Make sure CAPS LOCK is not turned on and If you have numbers in your password ensure NUM LOCK is turned on OR use the numbers above the letters on the keyboard.

Why does the message “Paper Size/Type Mismatch” appear on the printer screen?

This occurs when your document’s paper size is set to Letter or another unavailable paper size.  Once this has been sent to the printer you will need to reset the job on the printer and then change your document to A4 and send it again.

A4 is the standard document size and A3 is larger.  There are two places that you need to check to fix this problem.  The first is in your document.

In Office 2007 the paper size setting can be checked by

faq1Ensure either A4 or A3 are selected depending on your preference.
The other location to check is the Printer Properties.  When you select Print and the Print dialogue box opens

The window to the right will open.
Check the paper size, if it is incorrect click on the down arrow to select the correct size.  Click OK.
Most students who have this problem will find that Letter is selected.  You must set it to an available paper size to be able to print.

A4 is the closest size to Letter.
