2. Can I use my Laptop for a presentation as I am presenting at a Conference?

DIT understands that for presenters, the ability to use their own machine for presentation is often essential for a good presentation. DIT is able to provide this in most teaching and learning spaces. This access is not network access, just access to a data projector.

3. How do I get Network access for my Laptop?

Laptops or PDA that have the ability to connect to CSU LAN and WAN at major campuses , providing the conference meets the guidelines in point 1, can get access to CSU’s WAN/LAN . The Laptop or PDA must run an approved Operating system and have appropriate anti virus software.

4. How can I connect my laptop to CSU’s WAN/LAN?

Delegates requiring access to the internet using laptops are to present the laptops to the ITO to ensure that:

  1. The laptop has a suitable network connection
  2. The laptop will gain network access via dynamic IP that will require configuration of the browser to use the CSU proxies. The default user name and password for the conference will then be used.
  3. The device will be checked to ensure suitable services such as stated in above section.

All due care for checking will be made but no responsibility will be taken for these devices…if they do not meet these standards then the Conference Coordinator will be notified.

5. What is an approved Operating system for my Laptop and or PDA?

CSU requires the Laptop to have as a minimum Windows NT/2000/XP/Mac OS 9x or better. It will not allow access to Laptops running Windows 95/98/ME/Linux.

For PDA’s Palm OS is preferred but Pocket PC 2000 is acceptable.

Anti-Virus software should be installed and have up to date virus definitions.

6. How can conference delegates get access , or use their Laptop/PDA’s browser to get access to web sites outside CSU’s WAN?

DIT are able to provide this access with a Default User Name and Password that can be provided for the conference to the Conference Coordinator. The Conference Coordinator is approved by the relevant Dean, Exec. Director or Head of School and is a current staff member of CSU. The default password can be requested by contacting the Service Desk and completing all details of the request. In the ‘nature of problem’ box, request conference username and password for upcoming conference, including dates, location and other information. You will need to also include appropriate CSU cost centre account code for internet download charges to be posted to. It may be advisable to suggest a relevant username for the conference. Once this request has been processed by DIT, the default username and password will be forwarded to the conference coordinator.
