Getting Started - Step by Step
If you are new to CSU, the following links are provided to assist you and/or your manager to get you up and running as soon as possible.
Step 1: The IT Service Desk
Is your central point of contact for all things IT. You can access and do a lot things yourself, but if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us
Step 2: CSU IT Services Access
All CSU staff have access to core IT Services such as email, personal and shared drives, and the internet for example. There are a few ways to gain initial access to these services depending on who you are and these are detailed following.
Permanent Staff
Once you (or your employee) have formally accepted a position to work at CSU the Division of Human Resources will enter your details into their system
Overnight, DIT automatically creates your login. All staff will be required to go through the activation process, please download and read these instructions
Casual Staff
Quite different to full-time tenured employees, Managers of casual staff must request for temporary IT access for the staff member. They can do this online at this link which is also available in the IT Quicklinks section of my.csu
Temporary or Special CSU members
Similar to casual staff, sometimes visiting academics or others may need to access CSU IT facilities. This might be as a guest in a forum or to undertake consulting work. The Manager responsible for this person must request temporary IT access for the staff member. They do this online at this link which is also available in the IT Quicklinks section of my.csu
Step 3: CSU IT Orientation
DIT are committed to making you productive with our IT facilities and services as soon as possible after you arrive. The following links are available to assist you in doing this.
The Division also has trainers who will go through all of the following details in a face-to-face IT induction session. This session is aimed at helping you 'Get on with I.T'. Managers should also note that it might also be handy for those who have been at CSU and would like a quick refresher on new and improved services.
- IT Training and IT Induction Session - Face to face training and induction sessions
- Core and Non core policy - Important Information regarding the Division's priorities for IT issues reaching the service desk
- Code of Conduct for Users of Electronic Facilities Important Information regarding your responsibilities as a member of staff and user of IT facilities
- Password Changing Page
- CSU Communications Directory - It is important that your details are added to the central directory
Step 4: Specific Access Issues
Once we have covered the above, there will be specific areas of network access that you might require as part of your particular role within CSU. The following details are provided for the main specific needs. You should talk to your supervisor if you need particular access to a specific area
CSU Shared Drive (S) drive
There will be a nominated person in your school or department called a 'Share Administrator' or 'SA' who can give you access to your particular area of the S drive. You can call the IT Service Desk to see who is the SA in your area
Forums
All CSU staff can request access to any CSU forum. You can do this online by using this link and following the relevant instructions to add yourself to the forum.
Forum Management
DIT do not add or delete Forum managers for subjects, these are undertaken by a representative within each school.
Only the forums that you are currently a member of will be listed in the main forums page, therefore you can't actually use the link to add yourself to a forum. You need to get the full url for the forum from the forum manager and use that to add yourself.
CSU Administrative Systems
Applications such as Banner, Concept, Trim, and Beims require special access rights. The supervisor or manager can request these rights online by using this link which is also available through my.csu
Email Distribution Lists
The 'SA' for your area will also be able to add you to the necessary distribution lists within Outlook.
Web Publishing
All staff and students can publish their own web pages to a CSU server so that they can be viewed on the internet. You can request access to do this online. More details can be found in the 'Web Publishing at CSU site' via this link
Other
Please call the IT Service Desk if you require any other form of access that is not detailed here
