ResNet Services
Internet Data Facilities
Although the University provides computer facilities at all its campuses, the Department of Residences and Catering Services has gone a step further by providing a network connection for student computers in most of our bedrooms. This allows students to connect directly to the University network and World Wide Web without the use of a modem. Modem dial-up is not allowed.
All students will automatically receive a Login ID and Password after enrolment from the Division of Information Technology.
What Type of Computer Is Required?
If students will be bringing their own computer, both an IBM compatible computer or Macintosh computer are able to use the network connections.
The recommended minimum requirement for an IBM compatible is:
- A Pentium processor
- 32Mb of RAM
- Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000 OR XP
The recommended minimum requirement for a Macintosh is:
- 24MB of RAM
- Mac OS 7.5
Computer Connections to CSU
Extra Requirements:
- A network card (installed into the computer).
- A category 5 network cable (blue cable) at least 3 metres in length.
- Anti-virus software (up-to-date).
- Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
The category 5 network cables are also available for purchase at the Bathurst and Wagga Wagga Mini Markets. Cables can also be purchased from any computer store.
CSU does not service computers. PC's are the responsibility of the owners.
Setup is easy, just follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Connecting the cable
First of all the network card must be installed to your computer previously by either a technician or someone who knows how to. The University will not install the card and does not take responsibility for this.
Make sure the computer is turned off. Connect the CAT-5 cable to the wall socket (the red plug next to the phone plug in the wall) and the other end into the back of the network card at the rear of the computer.
