Project Brief

2-storey building, mixed open plan/enclosed office space/social space.

Approx 80 staff, accommodation for the School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Animal & Vet Sciences.

Architectural Features

The building will be of a modern design to complement the recently completed National Life Sciences Hub (NaLSH) building to the north. The building will link into the NaLSH building at ground level via a new entry/access area.

The ground floor will include amenities for staff and students such as lounge areas, kitchenettes, breakout learning areas, offices and meeting rooms. The first floor will be dominated by office space with two meeting rooms.

The building is a modern design, with a materiality of brick, glass and steel.

Sustainability Features

4 star equivalent green star rating (ESD principles) have been incorporated into the design

The design has incorporated a number of initiatives to improve the energy efficiency of the building, including low wattage lighting/daylight dimming/occupancy sensors, high performance glazing, automatic switch off of air conditioning units in unoccupied areas and capture & harvesting of rainwater & low flow water fixtures.

Provision for future roof mount Photovoltaic solar cells.

Nexus to University Strategy 2011-2015

Consolidate and align selected divisions from Faculty of Science to the new Science precinct on Agriculture Campus. Ensure new office accommodation aligns with University strategy for sustainability, energy reduction, staff well being.

Disconnected schools/divisions consolidated to individual single locations where possible. Develop accommodation that provides flexibility for organisational change and growth.
