Scope

Charles Sturt University (CSU) received a grant as part of the GRDC Infrastructure Grants 2016 – 2017 to facilitate grains research and development in Australia.

Design Features

The grant (with additional CSU funding) will support expansion of the existing research productivity and capacity in grain, crop, and weed sciences at CSU Wagga Wagga through:

  1. the construction of a new 400m2 Glasshouse facility, supported by specifically designed mechanical and essential services.
  2. new growth rooms will be installed (alongside the existing units) in the previously purpose built room within the Phytotron Building.
  • Areas of PC2 certification for GMO plants and GMO microorganisms research,
  • Specialist Mechanical & Lighting systems,
  • Wide range humidity system

Sustainability Features

The building will be designed and constructed to achieve the best solar requirements for a Glasshouse facility and a design that reduces the effects of the elements on services infrastructure supporting the facility, mechanical and electrical (including emergency power backup) without impacting the purpose of the facility.

Additional Information

Installation of new Growth Chambers to the existing Controller Environment Facility in the Phytotron Building.

Progress report

Onsite sees the vacating existing facilities in preparation for demolition. With offsite activities being the procurement of the construction contractor and development of the design team.
