Project Brief

The proposed Small Animal Veterinary Centre (SAVC) has been planned to provide clinical training in Phases 2 and 3 of the Veterinary Science program (Years 4, 5 & 6). This facility also will operate as a fully serviced veterinary hospital to provide services to the public on a commercial fee paying basis, simultaneously providing opportunities for clinical teaching for CSU veterinary students. The building will be leased to a veterinary practitioner currently operating in Wagga and that practitioner will continue to operate the existing first-opinion practice from the ne facility.

This facility was planned to meet the requirements and standards of Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC), Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association to facilitate greater control and monitoring over teaching veterinary students with clinical training and accreditation of the veterinary course.

The building itself will include four consulting rooms, one large consulting room, separate foyer for dogs and cat waiting area, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and ultrasound rooms, large preparation and treatments area with custom designed treatment tables, wards for dogs and cats, dentistry area, isolation facilities for dogs and cats, and internal and external dog runs. The facility will also include referral surgery areas supported with preparation room, intensive care unit, sterile room and scrub area. In addition to the above this facility has teaching, seminar and office spaces for students, veterinary practitioners and CSU staff. In house accommodation facilities will support 24 hour monitoring of the animals and emergency services.
