Project Brief

This development will consist of 10 buildings of 20 bedrooms each, the buildings will be paired with an outdoor connecting courtyard to create 5 "houses" of 40 students. Each building will have 12 bedrooms on lower level along with a large kitchen, a dining area, a lounge/study area and toilet facilities. Each upper level will have 8 bedrooms and toilet facilities. There will be a large laundry on the site as well as student parking and outdoor recreational space. Each site development will have disabled access to each building from the car parks and from campus, as well as between the buildings and the laundry facilities. The entire development is designed to include significant sustainable design elements including: minimization of the building footprint by using partial two storey construction; the collection of rainwater for toilets and grey water for irrigation; incorporation of cross ventilation for some cooling; installation of efficient hydronic, in-slab heating; and roof and window shading to minimise solar heat gain.

The development is scheduled for completion at the end of January 2009 in preparation for incoming students in February 2009.
