Induction of Staff of Partner Organisations

This resource outlines the steps to be taken to induct partner organisation staff at CSU. Staff employed by partners should be inducted by the partner. However, all new Agreements state that CSU is responsible for the organisation of induction training for new staff covering:

CSU academic policies and procedures
CSU administrative procedures
Student service requirements

Each Faculty or Division will develop strategies to address the Induction and Development needs that are specific to the agreements it has in place with its partner organisations.

Specific arrangements for policing and theology

Under agreements with the NSW Police and with the theological colleges who are the University's partners in the School of Theology, staff of these organisations who are accredited to teach in the University's programs have the status of academic staff of the University. They should be subject to the induction arrangements for the University's academic staff [DOC].

Compliance and ethical requirements for partnership staff

CSU is not responsible for staff induction for partners relating to matters internal to the operation of the partner business (eg. staff OHS, EEO, privacy etc). When planning induction, CSU should focus on the requirements the partner must meet to satisfy our obligations, rather than obligations imposed by the law on the partner independently of our relationship with them.

The International Office is to ensure that all new agreements contain the following standard inclusions:

Schedule of Protection of Student Privacy
Responsibilities of the Service Provider, (covers compliance and ethical responsibilities.

Performance requirements - partner organisation staff

Each Faculty/Division will provide information to the partner organisation that specifies the expectations relevant to the role they are undertaking on behalf of the University. The method of dissemination of this information is to be determined by each Faculty/Division.

This information will include:

CSU administrative arrangements associated with student academic procedures.
CSU academic policies relevant to the teaching of students.
Assessment Regulations
Exclusion Regulations
Examination Regulations
Teaching & Learning Regulations
Intellectual Property [DOC]
CSU Application and Enrolment Procedures. This training is provided via the Remote Campus Web Facility, and arranged through Student Administration.
CSU Admission Procedures. This training and information provision is arranged via the Faculty and International Office.

Introduction to tasks for partner organisation staff

Each Faculty will provide specific information regarding the arrangements for teaching the subjects and/or courses specified in the Agreement.

They will also provide support to develop knowledge of work to be undertaken (eg: specified in the Role and Responsibilities of Academic Subject Coordinator)

For partner staff new to academic work, the School may choose to use the Foundations of University Learning and Teaching resource developed by CELT [to be available in 2005]. This resource has been designed for new academic staff and relates specifically to skill development in learning and teaching.

Monitoring

Each Faculty will determine its own arrangements for monitoring the induction commitments made to partner organisation within the Agreement. This will include the support provided by the Academic Subject Coordinator to assist the partner organisation to develop their staff to meet the expectations relevant to the role they are undertaking on behalf of the University.
