ACCESS FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES

Background

There have been cases where an ambulance has been called to campus to attend an injured or ill person, and spent some considerable time looking for the address location because of lack of familiarity with the campus. This lack of campus knowledge would also apply to crews of other types of emergency vehicles.

Procedure

The procedure when calling ambulance assistance is:

  • CSU's Site Emergency Procedures require those calling for emergency services to arrange for the service to be met at the front gate or other specified entrance, where it will be guided to the emergency location. In the first instance it is better for a person from the area concerned to be there to meet the emergency vehicle, as they can provide an accurate update whilst en-route.
If it is not possible for anyone to be spared from the emergency location, ring your campus security number, and arrange for someone to meet and direct the emergency service vehicle/s.

This lack of campus knowledge would also apply to crews of other types of emergency vehicles.
