LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT: developing organisational capability through leadership skills, business knowledge and self awareness

Graduate Certificate in University Leadership and Management

From 2006, Charles Sturt University will offer a postgraduate study program to strengthen its current support for leadership and management development. The Graduate Certificate in University Leadership and Management is offered through the Faculty of Commerce and will provide CSU staff members with the opportunity to broaden their scholarship and understanding of leadership and management and of the higher education context in which they work, and further develop their leadership and management practice.

The Graduate Certificate in University Leadership and Management is designed for existing leaders and managers who are keen to develop further their leadership skills and knowledge in order to increase their participation and/or effectiveness in positions of leadership and in University decision-making processes.

Applicants may already have a large degree of autonomy in their positions, and may carry responsibility for projects or new initiatives, be managing teams or units, supervising others, or participating in University-wide committees or working parties. This program will focus on developing and exercising their leadership in a broader arena. Where applicants are still establishing themselves in their professional roles, the program will seek to extend their self-management and leadership skills within their current roles as well as prepare them for future career paths and possibilities.

The Graduate Certificate in University Leadership and Management is a component of the Leadership and Management Development Framework which has been developed to support the University in achieving its strategic objectives by providing a range of learning opportunities and resources for current and future leaders.
