Leadership Development for Women Program

In 2005 the University identified the need to increase the number of women in leadership positions as a strategic priority. The Vice-Chancellor indicated his commitment to sponsoring a leadership development program for women as one initiative to support this important strategic priority.

After researching different models of leadership development for women, the University decided to model its program on the highly successful Leadership Development for Women Program created by the University of Western Australia. The UWA program has been running for over 10 years, is viewed as having contributed significantly to advancing gender equity and cultural change in its home institution and has been transferred successfully for use by other organisations.

With its focus on providing professional development for women and contributing to cultural change within the University, the CSU Leadership Development for Women Program directly supports the key objective outlined in the University Strategy 2007 - 2011 to:

'Continue to build institutional strength, reputation and sustainability by attracting, retaining and developing committed, high quality staff and empowering them within a positive work environment'.

The Leadership Development for Women Program is a component of the Leadership and Management Development Framework which has been developed to support the University in achieving its strategic objectives by providing a range of learning opportunities and resources for current and future leaders.
