The usual period of notice for a resignations are:
- Academic staff - 3 months [normally to take effect at the end of a teaching session].
- General staff - 2 weeks
A lesser period may be agreed between an employee and the University.
The Exit Process - Forms, Checklist and Surveys
An employee who is considering leaving CSU should first speak with their immediate supervisor to discuss options and determine if any action can be taken that may overcome the need for resignation . Once the decision has been taken to leave, the employee will contact the Division of Human Resources who will ensure the following processes are followed:
- The employee will complete the Notification of Exit Form
- The manager and employee will together complete the Employee Exits: Checklist for Managers which will outline the actions to be taken to handover the role and to return University property.
- The Division of Human Resources will notify the employee in writing that the exit has been accepted. This will include the actions to be taken to finalise employment, salary and superannuation entitlements and benefits.
- The employee will be asked to complete the Leaving CSU Survey.
- All employees will have the opportunity to arrange an exit interview with Human Resources staff. Some interviews will be automatically arranged in instances where the University requires additional information for workforce planning purposes.
Planning for Retirement
Planning for retirement is part of an overall career management strategy for all employees. Whilst the notion of a traditional retirement age of 65 is no longer relevant since the abolition of compulsory retirement, employees still need to plan for their eventual separation from the University.
