CSUed - Learning and Teaching at CSU
2013
Transforming Assessment: New Landscapes, New Pedagogy, New Students.
- Bathurst, 19-21 November 2013.
Assessment is at the heart of learning and teaching. It is how we determine what students have learned. It’s also a key motivator and driver of student learning. But how does the way we assess impact on students? Do they just acquire knowledge and skills or will we transform the way they think about and practice in the world as professionals and citizens?
Find out via the CSUEd13 Conference Portal (http://csued.wildapricot.org/) about some new approaches to presenting your work and ideas.
2012
The conference theme for 2012 was Higher Education in the Digital Age: Building Connections to Enhance Learning and Teaching. The theme, chosen by the Flexible Learning Institute and ratified by the Advisory Committee, provided an opportunity for dialogue and reflection on the many innovations and transformations that are continuing to occur both at CSU and beyond as higher education responds to the digital age. As developments such as open educational resources, massive open online courses, networked learning and digital literacies continue to impact on higher education, how will we respond as an institution and as individuals? What are the implications of these changes for curriculum, including design of the student experience, pedagogy and assessment?
The conference was held on Wagga campus. Pre-conference workshops took place on 5th November, with the full conference occurring from 6-7 November 2012.
The key presenters were:
- Professor Gráinne Conole, Director of the Beyond Distance Research Alliance, University of Leicester, United Kingdom
- Professor Mark Brown, Director of the National Centre for Learning and Teaching, Massey University, New Zealand

Conference Title: Transforming University education: Developing a Culture of Collaboration, Integration and sustainability
Charles Sturt University is committed to collaborate with students, professions, our communities and staff, and participate in the national and international higher education environment. University education has become an increasingly interdependent undertaking and is exposed to many influences such as government policies, student expectations, and economic imperatives. In this climate CSU is transforming its university education through internal initiatives and visions, as well as external forces. As we enter our new strategic planning cycle, CSU faces multiple challenges.
We need to:
- pursue sound pedagogy that integrates personal and professional learning
- create cultures of collaborative education – internally and with external partners
- participate in pursuing sustainable directions of higher education
- align and shape the future of our education, research and community participation endeavours
- be vigilant advocates in the interest of transformative education
