Area of Research Interests

Stephen’s research interests are in professional reasoning and decision making. He adopts an interdisciplinary approach, drawing ideas from diverse disciplines including philosophy, anthropology, psychology and sociology. Social constructionism provides an overarching framework. He is particularly interested in the role of language in reasoning, such as how people deploy metaphor, narrative and rhetoric to make decisions.
