Evaluation of Learning and Teaching at CSU

Evaluating Learning and Teaching is a key part of enhancing student learning. Without evaluation we have no way of determining if the subject or the teaching has been effective. Charles Sturt University is accountable for the services it provides and the best way to do this is to listen to what the students are saying.

The Evaluation Unit

The responsibilities of the Evaluation Unit are to directly support the University in some of its key objectives notably to lead in the quality provision of flexible delivery of learning and teaching which:

  1. is supported by well-researched curriculum and teaching methodologies;
  2. uses research and technology to be flexible and responsive to student needs; and feedback.

To meet these responsibilities, the Evaluation Unit manages the Online Evaluation of Subjects (OES) system and the Student Experience Questionnaire (SEQ).

Other responsibilities include the administration of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Awards, the University Awards which include the Faculty Awards for Teaching Excellence, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Programs that Enhance Learning.

The Evaluation Unit supports the University's Academic Promotion process by providing validated Comprehensive Reports on online subject evaluations to the Academic Promotion Committee.

The Evaluation Unit also provides advice and information to staff on all matters related to the evaluation of learning and teaching in the form of information sessions and various notifications.
