FULT 2009: what is it?

Foundations of University Learning and Teaching is an induction for new academic staff into the distinctive learning and teaching culture and practices at CSU. Check with your head of school whether participation will be useful for you. It is especially recommended for staff with limited previous experience in tertiary teaching.
In Autumn 2009 FULT will be presented in four face to face workshops on Wagga and Bathurst campuses. Staff located on other campuses should arrange with their school to travel to the nearest workshop location; your school will cover travel costs.  A condensed two day version of the program will be offered in Wagga just before the start of Spring session. (Policing course staff: contact your school about arrangements for you.)

The four workshops cover these themes:

1. Orientation
2. Assessment: University Policy and Practice
3. Effective teaching encounters
4. Taking stock, moving on

'The focus of each of the workshops is described on this page

The FULT program will also include activity in CSU Interact. Sessional staff who cannot attend the live workshops will be able to complete selected sections of the program in Interact. Information about this mode of participation will be available in late January; contact Lesley Reid for information.
You may complete the full program of four blocks or just the sections you need, subject to your head of school’s expectations. Participation in the four workshops will be confirmed in a Statement of Completion.

Relationships with other courses and qualifications:

Most academic staff are required to participate in the Tertiary Teaching Colloquium as a condition of probation. The normal and recommended sequence is to complete FULT when you commence (either Autumn or Spring), followed by the TTC. Staff who complete the TTC are granted advanced standing for the first subject of the CSU Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching, should they decide to continue.
