OASIS in CSU Interact
Decommissioning OASIS
At the end of 201190 OASIS will no longer be available for use as an elective tool in Interact.Staff are encouraged to use Test Centre for online assessment needs.
Detailed support plans have been set up to assist staff to move any tests and data out of OASIS into Test Centre and to provide training in the use of Test Centre. Your educational designer is the first point of call for assistance.
If staff have any queries, please contact Janet Buchan jbuchan@csu.edu.au

Overview
These brief guidelines summarise how OASIS works in CSU Interact and describes ‘best practice' in managing tests through OASIS from within CSU Interact. Please ensure you are familiar with the Guidelines (pdf) for using OASIS in assessment when planning assessment.
OASIS is an elective tool in CSU Interact subject sites. This means that the tool can turned on (i.e. selected) by any Subject Coordinator or site owner. Like all elective tools, OASIS will not be able to be turned off once it is made available to students.
When the OASIS tool is enabled by the Subject Coordinator a link to OASIS will automatically appear in the left hand side navigation bar of the subject site.
This takes student and staff users to the student view of the OASIS application. The name of the subject group created will take the naming convention of the subject e.g. MGT100 200840 B D. Staff will need to use the new Management link on OASIS to access the OASIS Management application to create and manage tests (this is similar to the way Forums functions).
There is also a Quick Link from my.csu > Lecturer's office > OASIS Management.
(Note that the technical side of enabling OASIS takes place overnight on the CSU servers [Australian campus time], so OASIS will not be immediately be available to staff and students when it is selected as a tool.) (Back to top)
Student access to OASIS
Students - How to access OASIS tests in CSU Interact
- Access OASIS through the OASIS link in your subject site.
- Select your subject (i.e. subject group) from the Groups tab, this will display what tests are available in that subject site
- Select the relevant test
- Complete and Submit the test.
There have been no changes to the student side of the OASIS application. Students will be able to complete and submit their OASIS tests, and review their test results as in previous sessions. If a student cannot view a test that they expect to see in their subject, contact your subject coordinator who may need to change a setting or date on the test access. The IT Service Desk can only help with technical (hardware/software related) access difficulties. (Back to top)
Staff management of OASIS
Adding OASIS to a subject
Staff can add OASIS to any subject site that they manage. NB: once OASIS has been selected it cannot be de-selected as a tool in Interact .
- Open up CSU Interact
- Navigate to the relevant subject using the tabs on the top bar
- Use the Site Info tool in the subject site to access the Edit tools function
- Select the OASIS tool by checking the OASIS box and press Continue
- Confirm the selection of OASIS as a site tool by clicking on Finish.
Note that the technical side of enabling OASIS takes place overnight on the CSU servers [Australian campus time], so OASIS will not be immediately be available to staff and students when it is selected as a tool.
All management of the OASIS tests, results and images etc. is done within the OASIS Management application itself. See also the Adding managers guide (pdf) for information about adding other staff members to the OASIS group.
Managing cohorts
A cohort-specific subject group will be automatically created for a subject site when the OASIS tool is enabled.
- Use the List student cohort function to ensure that the correct cohorts are listed and able to access OASIS.
- It should not be necessary to use the Add student cohort function, and any problems in student access should be reported to the IT Service Desk and/or the OASIS coordinator, Janet Buchan so that problems can be dealt with.
Creating and Managing tests
The OASIS Management program itself remains the same for test creation, results management etc. However, OASIS users (especially those who are using tests again from previous years for new cohorts) are encouraged to follow carefully the instructions below to ensure that they avoid any problems arising from generation of results that might include previously linked cohorts etc. Thoughtful naming of the tests will be important in managing tests in CSU Interact .
- Re-using existing tests
- Use the Copy test function to create a new version of an existing test; then
- Use the Edit test function to rename the test/s with the current date and cohort
- If more than one cohort will access the same test, make a copy of the test for each individual cohort and name it appropriately.
- Creating new tests
- Use the Create test function to create a new test
- Name the test carefully with a view to future use of the test
- For further help on creating tests and a checklist of settings please use the Guidelines for using OASIS in Assessment (pdf).
Managing results
The provision of individual subject site based (i.e. cohort based) groups will facilitate the management of results and tests. There is no difference in accessing and managing results in OASIS in Interact compared to previous sessions. In 2007 an upgrade to the results reporting provided a wider variety of reporting options, including access to data of full group responses.
Where tests have been re-used from session to session without copying and renaming there may be a legacy of data from previous sessions. This may be a problem for old tests, but not with new subject sites and tests in CSU Interact .
Merging sites and OASIS
Merging subject sites may affect which students can access OASIS if this process is not done correctly.
- The merging of sites works on a FROM and a TO basis. i.e. In all cases the name of the site and thus the name of the OASIS group takes the name of the TO side.
- If two subject sites are merged that have both selected the OASIS tool, all cohorts will have access to OASIS.
- If the TO subject site has OASIS enabled, then the merged group has it, if the TO side doesn't have OASIS enabled, then the new merged site doesn't have OASIS and OASIS will need to be enabled in the new merged site.
- Use the List student cohort function to ensure that the correct cohorts are listed and able to access OASIS. If there are any problems with cohort access, please contact the IT Service Desk or the OASIS coordinator ( Janet Buchan ) to log any problems so that they can be dealt with.
- There is no need to use the Remove cohort function to manage new subject groups in CSU Interact .
Re-using tests in Interact from session to session
Tests will remain subject site (i.e. subject group) specific. To re-use a test from one session to another do the following:
- Access the previous session's subject site
- Open up OASIS
- Navigate to the OASIS Management tool
- Use the Test > Copy test function to copy the test
- You will be prompted to select a group to Copy the test to. This should be the new session subject group
- Use the Test > Edit test function to rename and set dates etc. for the new test.
If you have any problems with OASIS in CSU Interact , please put in an IT Service Desk request .
Please ensure you are familiar with the Guidelines (pdf) for using OASIS in assessment when planning assessment.
