Create an Outline

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Create New Outline button within the 'My Outlines' screen initiates the process for creating a new Outline.  Once someone with a responsibility for the subject offering creates an Outline they become the Author of the Outline.

Video Guide | Create Outline & Edit Basics

The are four (4) steps required to create a new Outline as depicted below.

Step 1. Opt to clone from a previously created Outline

A new Outline can be created from a 'blank' template or from a 'clone' of an Outline which has been previously created within the tool.  To learn more about cloning Outlines see Clone an Outline.

Step 2. Select Subject Offering for which you are creating the Outline

You must select one (1) or multiple offerings for which to create the Outline.  Click on the 'Select an Offering' dropdown box to view the list of available subject offerings; click on a subject offering; then click the 'Add Offering' button.  Repeat until all the desired offerings appear in the 'Selected Offerings' list.  Offerings can be removed from the list by clicking on the red 'delete' icon against each added offering.  The offerings available for your selection may be restricted for various reasons. For further detail see Select subject offering/s for an Outline.

Step 3.  Edit the Working Title if desired

The Outline name will default to the first selected Subject Offering.  Edit the name if you wish to use a Working Title for your easy identification during the Outline's development.  You (and other Authors) may also use the Working Title as a search parameter for future retrieval.  Note that once an Outline is deemed 'Ready to Publish', it will split into a distinct Outline for each selected offering and revert to the original offering naming convention.  The Working Title can also be edited while the Outline has a Draft status. For further detail see Working Title.

Step 4.  Select an access option

Public and private access can be selected during the creation process and/or switched within the Edit screen. To learn more see:

Access Option for detail regarding each option, i.e. who can access a 'public' Outline.

Outline Access for instructions on how to switch between public and private access within the Edit screen.

Create Outline or Reset Form

Reset Form will provided you with a blank form.

Create Outline will provide you with a pop-up confirmation screen.  Click:

Yes to save the Outline and open the Outline in the 'Edit' screen; or

No to cancel the creation of the Outline.

Troubleshooting

The information above assumes that:

the user is in the SCMF as either a Subject Coordinator or Nominal Subject Coordinator
an Outline has not already been created for the subject offering. For further detail see Select subject offering/s for an Outline.
the subject offering is active on the Subject Availability List (SAL)
the subject offering will have a subject site for learning and teaching
the Teaching School code (or Organisation Academic Unit [AOU] code) is correct as per data stored by the Office of Planning & Audit. This data is required for the Subject Outlines tool to provide the subject with the correct Outline template.
