Known Issues

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Also see Quick Tips for brief instruction on using the Subject Outlines tool.

As at 4 March 2010 known issues regarding the Subject Outline/s tool are:

Incorrect Automated Email Recipients

Staff may receive an email in which they have been cc’ed for no apparent reason. There is a small cache issue with the system which leaves recipients in the cc field. Subject Outline emails which are cc’ed to you in error can simply be ignored until the fix can be implemented.

Missing Outlines

(Internet Explorer only)

There have been reports of Outlines missing from the My Outlines screen  list for some time. This has finally been identified as a conflict of the Subject Outlines tool  code and the "-More Sites-" code.  This is encountered in Internet Explorer only.

Cause of issue:

-Login to CSU Interact using Internet Explorer.
-Go to the Subject Outlines tool in My Workspace.
-Click the CSU Interact -More Sites- tab (this produces a javascript error).
-From this point onwards, when you return to the Subject Outlines tool the My Outlines page will fail to complete loading (i.e. not show Outlines).

Workaround (i.e. how to avoid the issue):

Ensure the Subject Outlines tool is not open when you click on the -More Sites- tab. For example, click the Home tool in My Workspace prior to clicking -More Sites-; or exit Subject Outlines tool by navigating to another site/tool prior to clicking on the -More Sites- tab.

Activating an editor via the pencil icon

(Internet Explorer only)

When using Internet Explorer, clicking the pencil icon to activate a section editor within the Edit screen then starting to type and pressing the space bar will cause an unnecessary warning message to pop up.

Workaround (i.e. how to avoid the issue):

Use your mouse to click within the editor before starting to type.  Alternatively 9and to avoid the issue completely), instead of clicking the pencil icon to activate the editor, click on the pink highlighted box which displays when you hover your mouse cursor over the section you wish to edit.

CASIMS Learning Objectives 'stem text'

The CASIMS stem text which precedes the objectives has been omitted from the 'Learning Objectives' section of all Subject Outlines as it is not deemed as enterprise data available for reuse by other systems.  'Stem text' refers to the following standard text: Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:.

Creation of a Communications Directory entry for casual staff

Subject Coordinators who are casual staff members may experience delays in a response to their Service Desk Request for the creation of a Communication Directory entry if their supervisor had not requested the creation of an Exchange Account when the Coordinator's temporary IT access was arranged.  Ideally, supervisors should log a single Service Desk Request approving the creation of an Exchange Account for all casual staff known to require one.  The request should also state that the new accounts are required to enable the creation of Communications Directory entry for use in Subject Outlines.

Tables - merging vertical cells

The editor will not allow the merging of cells which are in the same column (i.e. above/below each other) via the 'merge cells' function.

While a fix is being investigated, the workaround is: click in top cell > right click > 'cell' > 'cell properties' > set the 'row span' field to the desired number of rows.

To delete any cells which are not required after setting the row span: click in cell > right click > 'cell' > 'delete cells'.

Cloning between templates

As you may know there are 4 different templates used by 4 defined groups to develop Subject Outlines.  They are:

1.Faculty of Business
2.Faculty of Education
3.School of Policing Studies
4.CSU Standard - for use by all groups not mentioned above.

Cloning an Outline for offering/s which use *different* templates will result in a failure to clone assessment items - this is due to the way the Manage Assessment component of the tool has had to be developed.  This will be resolved in the very near future.

In the meantime, please be assured that cloning *within* the same template will successfully clone all editable sections to the new Outline.

Resolved Dec-2009

General QA Comments style

Some content styles will not be retained upon save of the comments inputted into the 'General QA Comments' editor within the Edit and QA Outline screens.  Please note that this includes 'template' styles, i.e. styles applied to the predefined templates available via the editor's 'templates' icon in the top lefthand of editor menu.

Resolved Dec-2009

'Create Outline' fails

We are experiencing some issues with the AOU (School) information, so that when you create an outline the following message will appear:

An error has occurred selecting the Template for your subject, please contact the Service Desk with the following information:[appprod04-1250736441118]

These data issues are believed to be resolved - if you still experience issues when creating an Outline please email Michael van der Veeke and list the cohort/s with which you are having difficulties.

Internet Explorer Version 6

When authoring large blocks of content within an editor, Internet Explorer Version 6 users may experience screen flickering while scrolling and may not be able to edit the content if the size of the content requires the user to scroll.  A fix is being investigated however it is suggested that users upgrade to Internet Explorer Version 7 (the official CSU supported version) which can be installed here:

https://online.csu.edu.au/division/dit/software/core.html

Resolved 3-Sept-2009

Internet Explorer Version 6 users may experience non-editable sections fail to word wrap in the Edit screen. These can be viewed in html/pdf view. They will be ok for final output.

It is suggested that users upgrade to Internet Explorer Version 7 (the official CSU supported version) which can be installed here:

https://online.csu.edu.au/division/dit/software/core.html

Print Version not yet available

The 'Print Version' option for staff and students is not yet available.  Availability 3 September 2009 – TBC.  The ‘PDF Preview’ option will still be available to staff however its content is still undergoing development.

Resolved 3-Sept-2009

Editor allowing non-compliant content style

When the 'drag and drop' technique is used to 'paste' content into the editor, the editor fails to strip content style.  The 'Paste as plain text' feature (clipboard icon in editor) MUST be used to strip any style retained from its original source.  Content must then be reformatted using the approved styles as available within the editor.  If content is NOT restyled appropriately:

Outline content may not comply with the CSU Print Style Guide
PDF creation may fail
data which will be used by downstream systems such as EASTS and Gradebook will be jeopardised.

If this procedure is not followed and issues occur the Outline WILL have to be deleted and recreated from scratch.  We are monitoring this issue very closely and all Outlines will be checked for style compliance.

Resolved 3-Sept-2009

Incorrect CASIMS data (affects Outlines post Trimester 3 only)

The 'Subject Outlines' tool relies on data from CASIMS to complete the Outline.  We are experiencing issues with retrieving effective period data from CASIMS and request that Outlines which are required for sessions post Trimester 3 are kept in ‘Draft’ status until this issue can be resolved as we need to ensure that the correct data is displayed in your Outline/s.  This issue does not affect Trimester 3 Subject Outlines.

Resolved Mid-October-2009

SCMF ‘Bulk Add’ for Nominal Subject Coordinator

At this time we ask you not to use the ‘bulk add’ functionality available within the Subject Coordinator Maintenance Form (SCMF) for adding staff into the Nominal Subject Coordinator role.  Please populate this role manually only for the necessary subjects – if ‘bulk add’ is used lengthy loading times will be experienced within the Subject Outlines tool.  Improvements to loading times will be addressed in the near future.

Resolved 3-Sept-2009

Communications Directory detail currency

Subject Coordinator contact details which are automatically drawn from their Communication Directory entry may not be current or may display as 'To be advised' when in fact the current details are included within the Directory.  The 'Data Refresh' button should be used to refresh the contact details in the Outline - if this does not rectify the currency issue please log a Service Desk Request.  Note: A Service Desk Request is also required to update the Directory with current contact details.  The phone and email details of the Subject Coordinator are required as a minimum and other details must be included if relevant.
