Subject Coordinator

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

As normal, the substantive Subject Coordinator (whether onshore or offshore) must be populated into this role via the Subject Coordinator Maintenance Form (SCMF).

However, now the Subject Outlines tool uses this SCMF role to automatically:

allow that staff member to enter the tool to create then author the Outline for the offering. If a delegate must create/author the Outline on behalf of the substantive Subject Coordinator, see Delegates of the Subject Coordinator below.
include that staff member's preferred name (from HR records) and contact details (from Communications Directory) within the Outline as the 'Subject Coordinator'.

It is important to note:

the Subject Coordinator’s preferred name will be automatically provided within the Outline if available within HR’s Alesco.  If it is unavailable, the standard name which has been provided to HR will be included. Contact HR if a preferred name requires maintenance.  Once HR records have been updated, the Outline Author must enter the Edit screen and click 'Data Refresh' to draw the latest HR data into the Outline. To learn more see Data Refresh.
only one (1) Outline is able to be created per active subject offering on the SAL – therefore it is important to understand the role of the 'Nominal Subject Coordinator'. See Delegates of the Subject Coordinator below.
In addition to the automated inclusion of the Subject Coordinator name and contact details, the Subject Outline template will enable the 'Author' of the Outline to also include:
oConsultation and contact procedures for the Subject Coordinator/Convenor; and
othe names, contact details and consultation/contact procedures for any other staff who will teach the subject. To learn more see Other Teaching Staff.

Subject Covenors

If the Convenor's name must appear in the Outline as the Subject Coordinator (as opposed to the Coordinator/Teaching Staff actually teaching the subject), the Convenor must be populated into the Subject Coordinator role.  Teaching Staff information can then be placed in the Other Teaching Staff sections provided.

If the Subject Convenor must author the Outline on behalf of the Subject Coordinator but not appear in the Outline as the 'Subject Coordinator', see Delegates of the Subject Coordinator below.

Delegates of the Subject Coordinator

Person/s responsible for authoring the Outline on behalf of the Subject Coordinator must be placed in the Nominal Subject Coordinator role. The Subject Outlines tool  recognises the Nominal Subject Coordinator as having the appropriate authority to create and author an Outline for the particular subject offering/s. To learn more see Nominal Subject Coordinator.
