Learning Commons - Thurgoona

After a co-operative and concerted effort on the part of many people, the innovative brand new Thurgoona Learning Commons was ready to greet students for O-Week 2009.

Welcomed by rich earthy colours, bright modern furniture and the flowing lines of indigenous themes, the students seemed to feel at home from the start and have been very positive in their feedback.

The use of glass walls softened with frosted designs, combined with the way the vertical space provides appealing views of tan coloured timber, curving crimson girders and gum trees, creates a spacious, natural and open feel.

Aiming to achieve a vibrant and student-focussed learning space, the University has succeeded in its intention of harmoniously blending different environments, functions and user groups in a building designed with sustainability and environmental responsibility in mind. In terms of the physical layout, areas for related student activities complement the Library’s extensive collection.

The Thurgoona Learning Commons features:

"How do I Access the 24 hour spaces?"

A current CSU ID card is required to access the Learning Commons outside Library Hours.

After-hours: Place your CSU card in front of the Proximity Reader to the right of the automatic doors. Please note you need to present your card to a proximity card reader to exit the area.

No card is required to access the Commons or the Library during Library hours.

What is happening to Library services at Albury?

In 2009 the Albury Library will remain open at reduced opening hours during teaching periods and house a core collection of health-related resources. In 2010 the Albury Library will fully integrate into the Thurgoona Learning Commons, when all Albury staff and students move to Thugoona.

What is available at the Albury Library?

The Albury Library houses a core collection of health books covering Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology, plus a Closed Reserve collection. It also has photocopiers, computers, printers and a scanner, plus a range of group and individual study spaces. Books located at any campus (including Thurgoona) can be requested through the Library Catalogue and picked up at the Albury campus.

Please note: audiovisual, folio, video and reference collections are now available from the Thurgoona Learning Commons.
