Academic Search Premier is a huge multi-disciplinary database that covers just about all the disciplines and subject taught and studied at Charles Sturt University. It is often a good place to start when looking for material.

It contains indexing and abstracts of more than 8,100 journals, and of these, it included the full text from nearly 4,500 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications. Full text titles are available in HTML full-text and/or (searchable) PDF format.

Searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles.

Coverage varies.

CSU Library provides easy access to various "packages" of EBSCOhost databases, in the areas of Business, Education, Health, and Psychology, and Academic Search Premier is included in all four packages.

Wiley InterScience is a database of journals published by Wiley-Blackwells Publishing.

CSU has access to the bulk of this collection in full-text – nearly 1300 journals. Users can search the collection using a simple or advanced search, and can browse by title or subject area.

Subjects covered range across all disciplines: Business, Education, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences, and the Humanities.

Coverage dates vary with title.

Note: CSU previously had access to this material under the separate listings of Blackwell Synergy, and Wiley InterScience. On I July 2008 Blackwell Publishing merged with John Wiley & Sons, and all Wiley-Blackwell’s online products are now provided in a single online platform.

ScienceDirect contains over 1700 Elsevier Science journals, most from 1996 forward and some from 1993 forward. New titles are added on a regular basis.

ScienceDirect also contains full-text journals from other participating publishers.

ScienceDirect currently currently offers the full text of journals from AIChE, CRC Press, and ASM International, and either host or link to the full text content of Cell Press titles. It is the goal of ScienceDirect to offer subscribers an electronic full text "library" on a scale greater than anything previously available, containing content from a variety of leading STM publishers. CSU does not subscribe to all the full text titles included in ScienceDirect.

CAB Abstracts is a bibliographic database produced by CAB International (CABI) which covers the following subject areas:

• Agriculture, including animal production and welfare, horticulture, crop science and protection, applied economics and rural studies

• Animal and Veterinary Sciences, including animal nutrition, entomology, aquaculture and equine science

• Environmental Sciences, including, ecology and climate change, forestry, soil science, and hydrology

• Human Health, Food and Nutrition, including food science and communicable diseases

• Leisure and Tourism

• Microbiology and parasitology, including mycology, bacteriology and virology

• Plant Sciences, including biotechnology, plant protection, and crop science

Originally a citation-only database, from January 2009 the database includes full-text content which was previously only available through a separate subscription. This includes more than 36,000 journal articles, reports, and conference papers.

Updating is monthly.

CAB Abstracts is also available to CSU users in a package covering 2000 – Present.

Agriculture and Natural Resources Index (ANR-Index), an Australian government initiative produced by Infoscan, is a bibliographic database with informative abstracts and links to full text [where available] for agriculture and natural resources including sustainable Australian agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries industries and the promotion of conservation and sustainable use of Australia's environment, water and natural resources. Coverage 2000 - .

ANR-Index Archive, an Australian government initiative produced by Infoscan, is a bibliographic database with informative abstracts and links to full text [where available] for agriculture and natural resources including sustainable Australian agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries industries and the promotion of conservation and sustainable use of Australia's environment, water and natural resources. Coverage 1975-2000.

ANR-Research (formerly known as ARRIP), an Australian government initiative produced by Infoscan, is a research-in-progress database that describes current and recently completed research projects across the agriculture and natural resources areas, including sustainable Australian agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries industries, and the promotion of conservation and sustainable use of Australia's environment, water and natural resources.

ANR-Research Archive (formerly known as CARRP), an Australian government initiative produced by Infoscan, is a database that contains completed research projects from the ANR-Research database across the agriculture and natural resources areas, including sustainable Australian agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries industries, and the promotion of conservation and sustainable use of Australia's environment, water and natural resources.

The Livestock Library is a free online library that provides access to information to support Australia’s livestock industries.

Launched in 2005, it was developed and funded by the CRC for Beef Genetic Technologies and the Australian Sheep Industry CRC, and funded by Australian Wool Innovation. It is also supported and hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia.

The Livestock Library includes 22,000 documents - conference papers and journal articles - in the Livestock Library Research Database, and access to an estimated 60,000 documents on selected industry websites. Users can choose to search just the Research Database or across the entire Library, or can limit a search to a selected industry website, or a combination of websites.

Every item retrieved from the Livestock Library should be available in full text, and most should be available free (some information providers may charge for access).

Material in the Livestock Library Research Database spans the period from 1950 to the present, with new issues of journals and conference proceedings being continually added. Key resources available in the Research Database include

Victorian Primary Industries and Environment Library Catalogue (VPI&E)  is produced by the Knowledge and Information Branch of the Victorian Department of Primary Industries, and is the merged database of various former agencies including the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

It is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts books, reports, theses, video recordings, manuscripts and pictorial matter in the Knowledge Resource Centre at Werribee, and small regional collections of the Department of Primary Industries, and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

Subject coverage includes: agriculture; mineral resources; conservation; and land management/planning.

This resource was previously called DPI's Electronic LIbrary eXchange for Information Resources (ELIXIR).

This online resource from the National Agricultural Library of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, consists of two databases: the NAL Online Public Access Catalog, and their Article Citation Database.

AGRICOLA serves as the document locator and bibliographic control system for the National Agricultural Library (NAL) collection. It includes bibliographic records of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audio-visual materials, and technical reports related to agriculture from 1979 to the present.

AGRICOLA provides comprehensive coverage of newly acquired worldwide publications in agriculture and related fields, covering the field of agriculture in the broadest sense. Records are catalogued using the controlled vocabulary of Library of Congress Subject Headings and, since 1985, of the CAB Thesaurus.

Informaworld is a one-stop site hosting the full text of more than 1000 eJournals published by Taylor & Francis, Routledge, Psychology Press, Lawrence Erlbaum, Haworth Press, and Multilingual Matters, as well as citations from hundreds of other journals.

Prior to May 2009, CSU Library had access to only the full-text of the Routledge collection of education journals, but now has access to a much wider collection of journals covering a range of subject areas.

One of the benefits of Informaworld to CSU users is that it closes the “embargo” gap for a large number of eJournals already available via EBSCOhost: that is, it provides the full-text of recent issues of journals which are not available (for the most recent 12 months) in EBSCOhost.

The collection works like a database and offers a range of browse, search, and saved search options.

A standard search will return results that are both citation-only and full-text. SFX links are NOT available in this database, but users can limit their searches to (predominantly) full-text results by ticking the “My subscriptions only” box.

This resource is a collection of 30 entirely full-text Australian journals published by CSIRO Publishing. The website has a tab for, and lists of, books and CDs, but it is the journals to which CSU Library subscribes, and which are available in full-text. These cover a broad range of scientific disciplines including mainly agriculture, the plant and animal sciences, and environmental management.

The collection can be searched or browsed. Searching can be limited to a journal or a number of journals. The searching functionality is not very sophisticated, and users are advised to check the “Search hints” link which is available on the Advanced Search screen. Some users prefer to use another index, such as Web of Science or Biosis Previews, as a searching tool, and then use SFX links to link to the full-text within CSIRO Electronic Journals.

Coverage varies with title, but in some cases extends back to the early 1900s. All articles are available in PDF format.

Current Contents includes tables of contents and citations from journals from all disciplines. Abstracts are available for approximately 75% of records. Covers more than 7,000 international journals for the last five years.

There is no full-text of the articles in Current Contents but the SFX linking software can be used to locate full-text either in another online database or in a print holding in the library catalogue. In this database SFX is activated by clicking on the "Links" icon located beneath each citation.

Web of Science is an amalgamation of 3 citations databases including .....

• Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI): 1992-present
• Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED): 1992-present
• Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI): 1992-present

These databases can be searched individually or together, and can be used to locate articles by a range of criteria. They can also be used to locate citing articles (ie articles that have cited a specific reference).

There is no full-text of the articles but the SFX linking software can be used to locate full-text either in another online database or in a print holding in the library catalogue. In this resource SFX is activated by clicking on the "Links" icon located beneath each citation.

• The Arts & Humanities Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities. It indexes 1,144 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, as well as covering individually selected, relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals.

• The Science Citation Index Expanded is a multidisciplinary database, with searchable abstracts, covering the journal literature of the sciences. It indexes more than 5,700 major journals across 164 scientific disciplines.

• The Social Sciences Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database, with searchable abstracts, covering the journal literature of the social sciences. It indexes more than 1,725 journals spanning 50 disciplines, as well as covering individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals.

Cambridge Journals Online includes approximately 100 full text journals in a range of subject areas, published by Cambridge University Press.

Includes more than 1200 peer reviewed full text journals and a growing number of online books, including the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science. Subject areas include Education, Mathematics, Medicine, Science and Technology. Coverage varies.

VITIS-VEA (Viticulture and Enology Abstracts) is a free international literature database which provides bibliographic data, keywords, and abstracts (where possible) of scientific papers in the field of viticulture, enology , and related fields .

The database is available in English and German. There is a component of the database – abstracts of technical articles from German journals – which is available in German only, as "Informationsdienst praxisbezogener Literatur im Weinbau" .

Maps, graphs, data and reports from the National Land and Water Resources Audit.

The National Land & Water Resources Audit (the Audit) was established in 1997 under the Natural Heritage Trust Act.

The Audit was established to:

provide a baseline for the purposes of carrying out assessments of the effectiveness of land and water degradation policies and programs.. [and].. to improve Australian Government, State and regional decision making on natural resource management.

From 1997 - 2002 the Audit significantly progressed the collection and collation of primary data and information related to Australia's natural resource management. These reports have set the benchmark for reporting on the condition of Australia's natural resources.

Produced by the American Chemical Society, SciFinder is a “research discovery tool” which allows for exploring the journal and patent literature from a range of scientific disciplines, including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and related sciences.

It includes online access to databases of the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and to the MEDLINE database.

Sources include journals, patents, conference proceedings, dissertations, technical reports, and books.

Collection of disclosed chemical substance information, with more than 45 million organic and inorganic substances and more than 60 million sequences.

CASREACT (Reactions)
Contains reaction information from the millions of published journal articles and patent documents selected for inclusion in Chemical Abstracts (CA).

CHEMCATS (Chemical Suppliers)
A catalogue database with information about commercially available chemicals and their worldwide suppliers.  Includes more than 34 million commercially available chemicals.

CHEMLIST (Regulated chemicals)
An electronic collection of thousands of chemical substances that are regulated in key markets across the globe.

MARPAT (Markush Structures)
A structure-searchable database of generic, hypothetical substances found in patent claims and disclosures.

MEDLINE
Index to biomedical and health care literature, produced by the United States National Library of Medicine.

Ingenta is a database of current article summaries from more than 20,000 multidisciplinary journals with links to the full text of over 4,500 titles. The database can be searched for free.

CSU subscribes to a limited number of full-text journals via Ingenta.

For journals to which CSU does not subscribe, users can, for the majority of articles, choose a pay-per-view option, with electronic, fax, or Ariel delivery from Ingenta.

Journals@Ovid is a database of articles from journals which are available for subscription in full-text. It is an aggregate of hundreds of scientific, technical, and medical journals from over 50 publishers and societies.

CSU Library does not subscribe to all the journals indexed in this database. However, CSU Library does subscribe to the full text of 173 Journals@Ovid journals, mainly in the subject areas of medicine, nursing, psychology, and sports science.

So the results of searching Journals@Ovid will include a mix of citation-only and full-text results.

Please note that the 173 full-text journals are also available in the database CSU Full Text Journals@Ovid, listed in the CSU databases lists as Journals@Ovid CSU Full Text Subscribed.

Ovid's Biosis Previews database is a continuation of the Biological Abstracts (1995 - Dec 2001) database. Both cover life science research including original research reports and reviews in biological and biomedical areas. Specific coverage includes the traditional areas of biology, botany, zoology and microbiology, as well as agriculture, pharmacology, ecology, and veterinary medicine. Interdisciplinary fields such as biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics, and bioengineering are also included. Nearly 5,500 serials are monitored for inclusion. The databases also provide content summaries, books and meeting abstracts, papers and posters.

The Biological Abstracts database covers 1995 - December 2001, while Biosis Previews covers 2002 - current.

These two Ovid databases can be searched individually but the link here provides CSU staff and students with concurrent searching of both.

Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) [CSA] provides citations and abstracts from more than 5,000 serial publications, books, reports, conference proceedings, translations and limited distribution literature, in the aquatic sciences.

Water Resources Abstracts provides citations and abstracts from the world's technical and scientific literature on water-related topics covering the characteristics, conservation, control, pollution, treatment, use and management of water resources. Abstracts are drawn from journals, books, conference proceedings, and technical reports in the physical and life sciences, as well as from engineering, legal and government publications.

Until 1994, the database was produced by the United States Geological Survey, when it was generally known as Selected Water Resources Abstracts. Since that time, Water Resources Abstracts has been produced by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, which broadened the scope by including more material published outside the U.S.A. This database, which concentrates on water supply and water treatment, complements the Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts database, ASFA, where there is greater coverage of the marine environment and biological material.

Australian Public Affairs - Full Text (APA-FT), is an indexing and full text database that provides access to the scanned images of journal articles from published material on the social sciences and humanities. It is based on the journal indexing of the database Australian Public Affairs Information Service (APAIS), which is produced by the National Library of Australia.

Of the more than 2000 journals indexed, full-text access is included to nearly 500 journals, though more than half of these are only selectively indexed (that is, not all the items in the original issue of the journal are included in the database).

Subject coverage includes Australian business, health, current affairs, economics, humanities, law, leisure, literature, politics, and social sciences.

The TVNews database is a new (August 2007) Informit Media database, available via Informit Online.

It indexes Australian television news, current affairs, and selected documentaries from the free-to-air networks with links to the digitised video content in a compressed format. All individual stories from a particular broadcast are indexed with a detailed synopsis. TVNews is updated daily, with stories appearing on an evening news broadcast generally being available for access the next morning.

The video for each story or documentary is available in WMV format as a progressive download, allowing viewing to begin before the total video file is transferred. Items range from under 30 seconds for short news stories, to over an hour for selected documentaries. Transcripts are NOT included.

Coverage is from August 2007- present.

Factiva is the successor to Dow Jones Interactive and Reuters Business Briefing, previously produced by Dow Jones Reuters Business Interactive.

It is a global news and business information service. It covers the humanities, science, health, education and other subjects but has a focus on business, including business news, and company and industry research.

The database integrates content from newspapers (including The Age, and The SMH), Dow Jones newswires, business journals, market research reports, analyst reports, and websites. Much of the material is available in full-text.

Coverage varies, from 1980 - .

ANZ Newsstand is an online newspaper service provided by ProQuest and covering the full-text of Australian and New Zealand newspapers.

Titles from Fairfax (including The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald) and News Ltd (including The Australian, The Adelaide Advertiser, and The Herald Sun) are included, together with transcripts and wire feeds from ABC programs, and with leading regional and local newspaper titles from Australia and New Zealand.

Coverage varies, but most newspaper content is available from the mid- to late-nineties.

afr.com is the exclusive source of full-text articles from Fairfax Business Media publications including The Australian Financial Review and Business Review Weekly, but also over twenty other Fairfax news and information sources including the major Fairfax dailies and even The New York Times.

Content from sources such as The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The New York Times includes all (not just Business-related) material.

afr.com also includes a range of financial charts and investment tools.

This is an index to the archive of the Sydney Morning Herald spanning the years 1955 to 1990. The archive contains 820,000 pages from almost 13,000 issues. No new material is being added to the archive.

CSU does not have access to the full-text of the archive, so it is available here as an index only.

CSU staff and students would need to locate, or request, the full-text of articles in microfilm copies of the paper held at Bathurst, Thurgoona, and Wagga Campus Libraries.

More recent material from the Sydney Morning Herald is available online in full-text in the Factiva database (from September 1986) and the ANZ Newsstand database (from 1996).
