CSU's Library Services purchases access to these eBook collections for its clients.

acls

ACLS Humanities E-Book (HEB)
ACLS Humanities E-Book (HEB) includes more than 3,300 eBooks covering: area studies; history; archaeology; art & architectural history; performance, film & media studies; folklore; religion; musicology; political science; literary criticism; sociology; and bibliographical studies.

Printing/copying: You may print pages for personal research use only. After choosing the "pdf" page view option (rather than "image" or "text") for any given title, and at any given point in an eBook, three pages may be viewed and printed at a time.

No. of Users: Unlimited

Downloading: HEB titles can currently only be viewed online.

Course packs: If, as an instructor, you want to use material in a course, you can provide the permanent URL on the title record page and the appropriate page numbers to students. If you want to photocopy pages for your course, you must apply directly to the original publisher for permission.

Browser compatibility: Any standard web browser.

Software needed: PDF reader.

American Society for Microbiology: ASM eBooks
ASM eBooks is a collection of 122 electronic books published in the past 20 years and covering all aspects of applied microbiology.

Printing/copying: Users may print 10%, or one chapter, of a book.

No. of users: Unlimited

Downloading: Books are retrievable as chapters, displayed as PDF files. Only 10% of the book may be downloaded.

Course packs: No - Links only.

Browser compatibility: N/A

Berg Fashion Library
The Berg Fashion Library offers access to a range of online resources on world dress and fashion throughout history, including approximately 70 Berg Fashion eBooks.

Printing/copying: Items, including book chapters, can be reformatted for printing and printed via the browser.

No. of Users: Unlimited

Downloading: Users may "download and print extracts from material" for their own personal and non-commercial use only.

Course packs: Information not available.

Browser compatibility: For best performance, use a browser with a fast Javascript engine. Ovid recommends using Firefox 3.6 or Internet Explorer 8.

CAB eBooks
CAB eBooks is a growing collection of more than 330 eBooks published by CAB International (CABI) since 2005 covering: agriculture; animal & veterinary sciences; environmental sciences; human health, food, & nutrition; leisure & tourism; and plant sciences.

Printing/copying: PDF files can be printed or copied. Normal copyright restrictions apply.

No. of users: Unlimited

Downloading: Books are retrievable as chapters, displayed as PDF files.

Course packs: No

Browser compatibility: CABI sites are designed to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (but will work with earlier versions) and higher or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and higher. For Macintosh browsers, CAB eBooks recommends Safari.

Chandos Publishing Online
Chandos Publishing Online is a resource of library and information science, knowledge management, and business information, which comprises more than 330 e-books.

Printing/copying: Users may print or save individual chapters from a downloaded eBook, for personal non-commercial use.

Downloading: Users may print or save individual chapters from a downloaded eBook, for personal non-commercial use.

Browser compatibility: Works with all versions of IE after version 5.0, as well as versions of Firefox after version 2.0, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, Mozilla (non-Firefox), SeaMonkey, Camino and Opera Mini.

CSIRO eBooks
CSU subscribes to the "2011 Archive" collection, with 114 eBooks covering a wide range of subject areas, including agriculture, aquatic science, the plant and animal sciences, forestry, environmental science, and natural history.

Printing/copying: In the online reader, you may print up to 20% of an eBook, and may copy and paste up to 5% of an eBook, every 30 days. If you download an eBook using Adobe Digital Editions, you may print or copy 30 pages every 30 days.

No. of users: Unlimited users.

Downloading: You can download via Adobe Digital Editions for 30 days.

eBooks on EBSCOhost
eBooks on EBSCOhost is a multidisciplinary collection with single user license.

Printing/copying: Printing and copying is restricted to a maximum of 60 pages per title per browser session. (Limit is publisher dependent.)

Downloading: Users may electronically save individual chapters or articles for personal use only.

Course packs: No

Browser compatibility: Microsoft IE 9+, Firefox and Google chrome.

Note:

  • If you are using a Mac, you will need to install a PDF Browser plug-in in order to use the eBook Viewer.
  • EPUB format is not compatible with Internet Explorer browsers 7 & 8. When trying to open an EPUB format eBook in IE 7 or 8, you are prompted to upgrade your browser to IE 9. For more info about EPUB, click here.

Ebook Library
A large and constantly growing multidisciplinary collection of eBooks. Thousands of EBL titles have been purchased for permanent use. You can also access a constantly growing number of titles not yet purchased by CSU Library.

Printing/copying:
Users may print one chapter, or 20% of the book.
Users may copy and paste one chapter, or 5% of the book.

No. of users: EBL eBooks can be one of 3 lending models:

  • Unlimited concurrent (multi) users
  • Non-linear lending – unlimited concurrent users, to maximum 325 loans per year
  • Textbook - limited to a maximum of 3 concurrent users

Downloading: Users may download titles for nominated loan periods (1, 3 or 7 days) The eBook may be transferred to two authenticated devices within the loan period. Unless the user has logged in and renewed the loan, the eBook will be disabled on their machine once the loan period expires.

Course packs: One chapter per eBook may be used to create an ePack within EBL. Additional chapters may be purchased for inclusion.

Browser compatibility: The EBL patron interface and online reader is designed to work across all operating systems (including Linux) and popular web browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera). Where possible patrons are encouraged to have the most recent OS updates and browser versions installed.

ebrary
ebrary is an eBook collection covering most of CSU's teaching and research areas. The library purchased nearly 2,500 titles, the majority of these are from 2004 and later.

Printing/copying: 60 pages per book, per session.

No. of users: ebrary eBooks can be one of 3 lending models:

  • Ebrary Multi-user (MUPO) – unlimited concurrent (multi) users
  • Ebrary Single User (SUPO) – limited to one concurrent user, cannot be downloaded

Downloading: ebrary offers a number of options to download content for offline use on your computer and other devices. For more information click on "Document Downloading" in the Help menu

NOTE: Ebrary Single User (SUPO) titles cannot be downloaded for offline use.

Emerald eBook Series
Offers access to eBooks in two main subject areas: business, management, and economics (550 eBooks); and social sciences (240 eBooks). The link here connects to the Emerald database of journals and eBooks, at the screen for browsing eBook series. You can also search and browse online journals and articles, as well as eBooks.

Printing/copying: 10% or one chapter.

No. of users: Unrestricted, concurrent multi-user access.

Downloading: 10% or one chapter.

Course packs: No

IGI Global / Info Sci-Books
IGI Global / Info Sci-Books is a research collection of more than 1,600 scholarly works on information technology and computer science. The collection is mainly eBooks but also includes 136 eJournals. Results are available at chapter/article level.

Note: to search the collection, click on "Database search" in the left panel.

Printing/copying: Users may print parts of the material for personal use.

No. of Users: Unlimited

Downloading: Users may electronically save individual chapters or articles for personal use.

Access to the full text of Grove Art Online, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art.

PsycBOOKS contains the full text of scholarly book titles published by the American Psychological Association (APA) going back to 1806.

Printing/copying: Users may print sections of books.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and above
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and above

Software needed: It is strongly suggested that Javascript be enabled in your browser options to take full advantage of OvidSP's new features. While OvidSP will work without Javascript, advanced features like 'drag and drop' will not work unless Javascript is enabled.

Safari Books Online
More than 300 full text books on IT, multimedia and graphic design.

Printing/copying: Pages must be printed individually. Safari Books Online Library and Bookshelf subscribers may print PDFs downloaded from Safari, but sharing pages with others is a violation of copyright law and the Safari Books Online Terms of Service.

No. of users: 5 concurrent.

Downloading: Terms of Service allows for portions of books to be manually copied, but downloading content using automated retrieval mechanisms is prohibited.

Course packs: No

Browser compatibility: The browser you are using must support 128-bit encryption. The following browsers meet the 128-bit criteria:

  • Internet Explorer, Version 7 or above
  • Firefox, Version 3.x or above
  • Safari, Version 3 or above
  • Chrome, Version 7 or above. (For Chrome users, we strongly suggest using the most current stable release. As of May 2011, this is Chrome v11.)

Safari Books Online does NOT support beta versions of any browser. If you are using a beta browser and the site is not functioning correctly, please switch to one of the browsers listed above.

Springer eBooks is a collection of non-DRM eBooks which is constantly growing. The subject areas covered are, biomedical & life sciences; computer science; earth & environmental science; humanities, social sciences & law; and medicine.

Printing/copying: Print, save or download individual chapters or full book as pdf files without any restrictions. Remember the fair dealing provision of copyright act applies (10% or one chapter, whichever is greater).

No. of Users: Unlimited

Downloading: Users may electronically save individual chapters or full book for personal use only.

Wiley Online Library
Wiley Online Library is a database of eJournals and a growing collection of individually selected eBooks on a range of subjects. The link here connects to a browse list of eBooks. Please note that CSU Library does not subscribe to all the eBooks in the collection, and that searches will return both journal articles and eBooks results, which can then be filtered by publication type.

Printing/copying: Users may copy or print single copies of individual items for personal use.
