Your Library Out Loud Podcast:
Library Services for Off-Shore Students
Transcript
Students classified as Offshore are those students studying through Charles Sturt University partner and affiliated institutions.
Are you an offshore CSU student? Feel like you are distant? You do not have to be.
Charles Sturt University Library provides an extensive range of online services which can be accessed via the Library website. It's your Library. Anywhere. Anytime.
Do you know that approximately 60,000 of the Library's journal titles are now online as eJournals? In addition, the Library provides access to more than 90,000 eBooks. More titles are added to these collections every week, and they are available to you 24/7.
So, what is available, and how do I access these resources?
The Find Information menu, on the left hand side of your Library Homepage, or the Library tab in CSU Student, is your portal to online resources.
Primo Search is the location to search for many of the resources the CSU Library has. When you try searching for a topic, you can limit your results so that it will only show material that is available online. Journals, journal articles, eBooks and theses can be found using this simple intuitive search tool, with more advanced search functions available if required.
Although most of the electronic journals the library subscribes to are available through Primo Search, there are still some that are not. So you might also find it beneficial to search the journal databases.
Journal databases are collections of journal and articles that are generally grouped by topic, allowing you to find journal articles relevant to your subjects. CSU Library's extensive online subscription means that many of the journal articles are available in full-text.
eBook titles can also be searched in Primo Search, where they will be identified by an eBook icon on the left of the title. There is no charge for CSU staff and students who wish to access and download a book from the CSU Library eBook collections.
If your lecturer has told you to find material that has been placed on reserve, or eReserve, you should be able to access it by entering the subject code.
Subject Support provides you with step by step guides to find information for your assignments, and provides links to useful dictionaries, encyclopaedias and websites.
If the information you need is only available in the library in print, you can request a photocopy via Primo Search. Photocopies can be emailed, allowing for quick service. Sections of books can also be photocopied, but Australian Copyright Law only allows 1 chapter or 10% (whichever is the greatest) per book to be copied. To place a photocopy request, click on the Availability link for that particular book or journal, and then choose the Photocopy request link.
Online Reference is your virtual reference desk. Here you will find links to a large number of resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, newspapers, various directories, image collections, legal resources and other useful reference material.
In addition to all the online resources available on your library website, you will also find a range of help options available for you.
There are self-help tutorials such as InfoSkills@CSU and Online tutorials, as well as Frequently Asked Questions, Podcasts and other help guides.
If you cannot find the answer to your question online, and you need some advice be sure to contact the library. Submit an Ask a Librarian - Web form for a detailed response from a librarian, or use the Live Chat service to get an instant response during operational hours. Make sure you check the Knowledge Base, as you may find that someone else has asked the same question, or why not visit the Library Forum, where you can interact with library staff or fellow students?
For the latest library news, such as new eBook titles, trial databases or new services, be sure to see the Library Blog, follow the library on Twitter or see the News on the Library Homepage.
The team at the Library is here for you. If you have problems accessing the online resources, be sure to try the self-help tutorials, or ask a question. CSU Library, it's your library, anywhere, anytime, and just a click away!
