In this podcast I'm going to tell you a bit about the library services available for you at our Burlington campus.

Just because the library at Burlington is small, please don't think that there aren't many resources for you. As well as the carefully selected material and helpful, knowledgeable staff that are in the physical library, you also have access to the huge collection of electronic resources that CSU subscribes to.

This includes electronic books, journals and databases, which are all easily accessed from any computer with internet access. As well as this, we can scan and email to you up to one chapter or 10% of the total number of pages of the books, or articles from journals, which are physically held at the Australian CSU campus libraries.

So let me explain how to find what you need. Firstly, to find books - you will need to search the library catalogue. The library home page has a quick catalogue search field, which is fine to use if you want to search the entire collection. Just type in your search terms, click on Search, and you will be able to see every thing in our collection with those terms. When you have found a list of records, you can click on the title to read the full record, and click on the Check Availability link, followed by Request a Photocopy, if you want to request a scanned copy. We are limited to scanning 1 chapter or 10% by Australian copy right laws.

If you don't know enough about the book to know which chapter to request, try checking the full record. Where ever possible, we have either added the list of chapters, or provided a link to Google Books, where you might even be able to preview part of the book. If not, you can request a copy of the contents pages to start with, and then choose which chapters you want from that.

But, you're probably more interested in what books are available electronically, or on the Burlington campus, right? Well, the easiest way to check is to click on the Advanced Search link that is at the top of the catalogue screen. You'll see that you can still add your keywords to the search box, but at the bottom of the screen you can choose a location from the drop down menu. Select either CSU - Ontario, or CSU - Electronic Resources to limit your results to these.

If you've been provided with a list of journals or journal articles to read, you can search for them in the catalogue by the title of the journal, and follow the links to read them online, as the vast majority of our journal titles are held electronically. If you come across one that isn't electronic, you can request scanned articles from it.

Searching the catalogue is ok if you are looking for one specific article or journal, but if you want to do a thorough comprehensive search of the research and literature in your subject area, then you will need to use the Journal databases. You will find the link to these under Find Information on the library website. They have been categorised by subject, so by choosing Business or Education, you will go straight to the databases most appropriate for your studies.

You will find that we have a range of databases with various focuses. EBSCOhost has Business and Education packages, which provide international coverage of journals in these areas, while CBCA - Canadian Business & Current Affairs - provides Canadian content on a number of subjects, including Education and Business. InformaWorld and Emerald are also excellent sources of material.

The website includes other tools and resources that you might like to investigate too. Our Research & Teaching section provides a lot of information for higher degree and research students - not least is the link to download and information about using EndNote - our bibliography management software, and our Online Reference collection provides links to all sorts of useful reference material that is available electronically.

There is also a huge amount of help available to you, just look at the FAQs, or the different links under How to Use the Library. And if you have any questions, as well as asking the staff in the Burlington campus library, you can contact other library staff through our Ask A Question Live Chat or Web Form services, or post it on either the Library or Ontario forums.

So please, take a bit of time to look at the CSU Library website, and make sure you follow us on Twitter or our library blog to stay up to date with what is happening.
