The Subject Support pages on the Library web site are an easy way to find information for your assignment. There is a specific discipline support page designed to help you find information for your subject area. A Subject Support page has many useful resources collected on the one page and is a great place to start researching for your assignment.

How do I find the Subject Support pages?

These Subject Support pages are easy to find. All you need to do is select Find Information from the Library’s web page and then select Subject Support.

Choose the general discipline you study, eg History and Politics for which you require information.

How are the Subject Support pages arranged?

The Subject Support guides are arranged as an easy four step guide.

Step one asks you to analyse your assignment topic. You will find useful links to dictionaries and encyclopaedias to help you define terms. If you need further help with the analysis of your assignment topic look at the Topic Analysis module on this Subject Support page.

Step two. Now you are ready to find information. Search the Library catalogue to find books, DVDs, eBooks and other electronic resources that will help you answer your assignment question.

You can look at the Catalogue Tutorial or the Watch-it Tutorial ‘Find a Book’ for further information on searching the catalogue.

Step three is searching the Library’s databases for useful relevant journal articles. If you select History and Politics as your discipline area and use the History and Politics databases link you will be able to access a list of key journal databases for History and Politics. Help for using the databases is also available on the Subject Support pages. Use the Database Tutorial.

You may still need to find more information on your topic to complete your assignment. Step four includes a collection of useful links to web sites, subject specific blogs, podcasts and also professional associations. If you need help, look at the Searching the Internet tutorial.

Do you need an article from a peer reviewed journal? You can check if the journal article you have found is from a peer reviewed journal by clicking on the link to Ulrichs Periodicals Online on the Subject Support page.

If you need to determine if a particular article you are interested in is available in full text use the Article Finder link on your Subject Support page.

Your Subject Support page provides a link to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, this can help you find relevant statistics to include in your assignment.

Need to know how to reference your assignment? Click on the Learning Skills link on the Subject Support page and access the APA referencing guide.

Other helpful information on the Subject Support page includes a link to Endnote, the bibliographic management software.

Do you want to find a government department or agency? Follow the link on the Subject Support page.

Call 1800 808 369 or use the Library’s online reference service ‘Ask a Question’ if you need further help using your Subject Support page.
