How do I get Direct Exports using Safari?
- Once you get to the point in the database where you have a results list and have chosen your citations to export, choose the "export" option, select the save button (or equivalent depending on the database in question)
- Instead of opening up Endnote, Safari will download a file to the downloads folder. This file may be named delivery (EbscoHost databases), Ovidweb.cgi (OVID databases) or Save records (Informit databases)
- Drag and drop the downloaded file to the EndNote X4 application icon (NOT your Endnote library) on the Dock
- If you have an endnote library open, the references will be automatically imported into that library.
- If you don't have an EndNote library open, Endnote X4 will open and prompt you to select a Library into which to import the files
- Choose the Library and references will automatically import.
Importing records from Google Scholar
Google Scholar preferences can be updated to export references directly to your EndNote library.
For instructions on how to set Scholar preferences to import references please see Adding References from Databases.
Importing records from Libraries Australia
Libraries Australia is a service which allows you to search for and locate material in Australian and overseas libraries. e.g. Library of Congress, British Library Catalogue, Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI), Consortium of [British] University Research Libraries, [US] Library of Congress Catalogue, Singapore National Union Catalogue, Te Puna New Zealand National Bibliographic Database).
Libraries Australia
Records for resources accessed via Libraries Australia can be downloaded in RIS format, and then imported into an EndNote Library. For detailed instructions on how to download & import records from Libraries Australia please see: - Link to info on getting started guide?
Please note: Records imported in RIS format from Libraries Australia will include a variety of Reference Types, eg. book, book section, manuscript, thesis, and web pages. Some details may need to be edited.
PubMed
Records from the PubMed database must be saved as a text file in Medline format and then imported into EndNote using the standard PubMed (NLM) filter.
For instructions on how to import references from PubMed see the CSU Library Download References from Databases page.
Importing references from PDFs
Please note:
- To successfully use this feature your PDF file must have a DOI number, prefixed by 'DOI' on the 1st page of the document.
- The files must be text-based PDFs, not scanned documents.
- Open the library into which you want to import the references.
- From the File menu, choose Import File.
- Click the Choose button to locate and open the file you want to import.
- Select the needed PDF file and click Open.
- Select the PDF import option from the Import Option list.
- Select an option from the Duplicates list:
- Import All: Imports all references, including duplicates.
- Discard Duplicates: Imports all references except duplicates.
- Import into Duplicates Library: Duplicate references are imported into a library called File-Dupl.enl, where "File" is the name of the library into which you are importing.
- Choose a Text Translation option. The default value is No Translation. There is no need to change this value.
- Click Import to import the file.
Note: When the import is complete, the new record is stored in the Imported References group, and will include bibliographic information given for the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) mined from the PDF file such as title, author, volume, issue, page, year, and DOI. This is a perfect time to add a keyword to the imported reference or to peruse the imported data to make sure it imported as expected. Make sure to check references that contain extended characters.
