How do I use SFX link resolver to locate full text articles?
In the References menu, the "URL" > "OpenURL Link" option allows you to link directly from a reference to a journal article in an EndNote library, to the full text of that article found in one of the CSU library databases.
Setting up EndNote to work with CSU SFX link resolver:
- Open EndNote
- Select Edit > Preferences > Find Full Text
- Select the check box to enable OpenURL
- Replace the existing text in the OpenURL Path with: http://sfx.unilinc.edu.au:9003/csu
- Click Okay

I can't find the EndNote toolbar in Word
The installation of EndNote should add an EndNote toolbar in Microsoft Word. If the toolbar does not appear in Word, use the Configure EndNote option which can be found in Start Menu > Programs > EndNote.

- Click on Next.

- Click on Next.

- Click on Finish
If, after configuring Endnote, you still do not have the Endnote toolbar in Word, you may need to manually enable the plugins. To do this in Word 2007 follow the steps below.
- Click on the Office button
in the top left corner of Word. - At the bottom of the Office dialog box, click on Word Options:

- Select Add-Ins in the left side of the Options dialog box:
- At the bottom of the Add-Ins dialog box click on the down arrow next to 'Manage' and select Word Options and click on Go:

- In the Word Options dialog, make sure the 'EndNote Cwyw.dotm' and 'EndNote Web Cwyw.dotm' check boxes are ticked and click OK:

- If the 'EndNote Cwyw.dotm' or 'EndNote Web Cwyw.dotm' are not listed then click on the 'Add' button and locate the file(s) in the Endnote folder on your computer at C:\Program Files\EndNote X1\Product-Support\CWYW and then click OK. Make sure the Endnote plugins are now in the list and the check boxes are ticked and click on OK again. Close all of your programs and restart things in this order 1. Endnote 2. Open an Endnote library 3. Open Word.
In some cases the Endnote toolbar will still not be displayed or the tools may not work. This occurs when Word has wrongly determined that the Endnote plugins are corrupted, and has therefore disabled them. In this case you will need to 'Enable' the plugins again. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Click on the Office button
in the top left corner of Word. - At the bottom of the Office dialog box, click on Word Options.
- Select Add-Ins on the left.
- At the bottom of the page, where it says Manage Add-Ons select Disabled Items and click on the Go button.

- Select the Endnote plugins in the box and click on the Enable button.

To link to the required journal article reference from your EndNote library:
- Select the required journal article in the EndNote library.
- Select References > URL > OpenURL
The SFX Services for this record should then be displayed in a new browser window, with either, a link to the full text article found in one of the CSU library databases, or an option to check the library catalogue for print holdings.

Managing EndNote files
When you create a new EndNote library, the program creates a library (.enl) file and an associated (.Data) folder. If you named your new EndNote library "References" for example, then the following items will be created:
References.enl (file)
References.Data (folder)
Figures, Groups, Attachments and other significant files are stored in the .Data folder which is in the same folder as your primary library file. This folder is an extension of the library, so remember to backup, move, copy, rename, or delete the associated (.Data) folder along with the primary library file.
If you use EndNote on more than one computer, you should consider storing your working EndNote library on a 'thumb drive' and regularly back up the library (.enl) file and associated (.Data) folder in another location. This will ensure you are always working with the most up to date version of your library.

Saving styles, filters and connection files in Windows Vista
These instructions are for users of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system who need to download EndNote filters, styles or connection files. Vista will not allow the user to save files to the Program Files area. This is the area where the EndNote Filters, Styles and Connections folders normally reside.
If you want to download additional Styles, you must find the EndNote Styles folder in the Program Files, copy that folder, and paste it into the Documents area of your computer. Then you can download the additional filters and save them in the new folder. Then amend the preferences in EndNote so that it is aware of this change:
- open EndNote
- select Edit > Preferences
- select Folder Locations - the default Style Folder location will be in the Program Files folder
- click on Select Folder and browse to locate the new folder that you have created in the Documents area, and Select that folder
- click on Okay
The same procedure applies if you want to download extra filters or connection files.

What is a DOI?
A DOI is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by a registration agency http://www.doi.org/ to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the Internet. Many scholarly publishers assign a DOI to journal articles and other documents. Some editors now expect authors to include DOIs in their reference lists.
EndNote X4 includes a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) field in each reference type (journal article, electronic book etc). The American Psychological Association (APA 6th) referencing style in EndNote X4 displays the DOI where it has been included in an EndNote record.
Records exported to EndNote from some databases will automatically include the DOI, but in other cases, you may need to edit exported records, and manually add the DOI data. Because the DOI string can be long, it is safer to copy and paste whenever possible to avoid data entry errors.
