EndNote X1 @ CSU - Import records into EndNote

Some databases do not allow users to export records from a database search directly into EndNote. In this case database records may be saved as a text file and then imported into EndNote, using a 'filter' that copies the records into the correct EndNote fields. Records can be used to create a new EndNote library or added to an existing one.

Save your database search results, including any specific fields that you may require, e.g. abstract, subject headings, keywords, as a text file.

  1. Open EndNote library
  2. Select File and then Import
  3. Click on Choose File button, and browse folders to highlight and then Open the saved text (.txt) file
  4. Use the Import Option: drop down arrow to select Other Filters to display the list of filters available in the EndNote; ../Filters folder, then highlight and Choose the required filter
  5. Click on Import button to import the file
