The following electronic resources can help you decipher journal title abbreviations. Please contact a Faculty Liaison Librarian if you require further assistance.

  • AGRICOLA - Journals
    Index Information about the journals indexed for AGRICOLA can be found here. In addition to the currently indexed titles, the JIA also contains previously indexed titles dating back to 1992.
  • Biological Journals And Abbreviations
    Abbreviations, full titles, and links to some WWW pages for a large variety of biological and medical journals. The journals are organized in abbreviation order.
  • CISTI Catalogue
    A library catalogue which allows searching by abbreviation.
  • Index Medicus Journal Abbreviations
    An alphabetical list of journals indexed in Index Medicus + their abbreviations.
  • ISI Web of Science
    An index containing all of the cited works in Web of Science; shows the abbreviations used for journal titles.
  • Journal Abbreviation Sources
    A registry of Web resources that list or provide access to the full title of journal abbreviations.
  • PubMed - Journal Database
    Search using abbreviations for any title likely to be in the National Library of Medicine.
    You can search by:
    • topic, journal title or abbreviation, ISSN, or browse by subject terms.
    • limit searches to PubMed journals and/or currently indexed.
  • Ulrich's Periodicals Directory: Bibliographic details of periodicals
    Ulrich is an authoritative source of bibliographic and publisher information on more than 300,000 periodicals of all types.

While the Library provides this list of possible web sites to check and find journal abbreviations, the Library has not checked the accuracy of the abbreviations they supply.
