Reserve for Academics - eReserve
What is eReserve?
eReserve is a collection of digital resources requested by lecturers to support subjects offered at Charles Sturt University. The resources are not mandatory (core) readings; LTS advise on mandatory readings.
- eReserve is designed to contain course-related readings that are supplementary only and Copyright compliant.
- Lecture notes or non-copyright materials that are created by academic staff are made available through CSU Interact. eReserve is intended to deal with published copyright compliant materials only.
- eReserve is available only to people with a current CSU login and password and can be accessed via Primo Search world-wide.
Please Note- To comply with copyright requirements all eReserve material is removed at the end of each year.
- Academic staff need to request reinstatement of required eReserve material before the commencement of each semester. Contact eReserve Staff.
How do I send material to eReserve?
The Library works in collaboration with the Division of Learning & Teaching Services (DLTS) to support eReserve.
- Printed material which needs to be scanned
10 days prior to the required date Academic staff deliver or send materials that require digitising to Media Production, DLTS at Wagga Wagga or Bathurst, accompanied by a completed eReserve Request Form, via internal mail or the Media Development Coordinator (MDC).

- Existing PDF of scanned material
Material which exists as a pdf can be emailed to reserve@csu.edu.au together with a completed eReserve request form. - Interlibrary Loan material
Academic Staff may request material through the Library Interlibrary Loan system for use in eReserve. As the requested copy must be obtained from a printed copy, it would be appreciated if a note could be included on the ILL request stating that the material is for use in eReserve. -
PowerPoint Presentation
Material which exists as a PowerPoint presentation can be emailed to reserve@csu.edu.au together with a completed eReserve request form.
Please note:- Images from the web used in the PowerPoint presentation must be accompanied by the relevant URL
- All third party material which has been scanned from text requires full APA standard referencing.
Where a requested eReserve item is a fulltext article in one of the library databases the requestor will be sent a link to add to their Interact site or Subject Forum. This option provides a faster service.
If you prefer to scan articles or book chapters yourself please refer to the guidelines.
What about Copyright?
The licence that the University holds permits the making available of electronic copies of printed materials under the conditions set down by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). All copyright materials need to be processed by the Library or LTS and should not be placed on Interact Sites, Subject Forums or Academic WebPages.
The same limitations that apply to print copies also apply to electronic copies, i.e. generally no more than 10% or one chapter of a work, or one article from a journal issue, may be put online. The University's licence also only enables it to put one part of a work online at a time. For example, if a chapter of a book is already online, then another chapter from the same book cannot be put online until after the first chapter is taken down and then only for a different subject.
PowerPoint displays that contain any third party copyright material for which permission has not been obtained to communicate online must be placed on eReserve in order to manage the copyright limits imposed by the Act. Once loaded on eReserve, you can place a link to the display in Interact. PowerPoints displays that do not include works created by others, or are supplied by publishers may be placed on Interact. For more information on putting 'Instructor's Resource' PowerPoints supplied by publishers online, read the information provided on the CSU Copyright website.
Further information on how much of an item can be put online can be found on the CSU Copyright website; for more information contact the Copyright Coordinator.
The Library will not include material in its Reserve collection (print or electronic) that breaches the Act.
