Reserve for Academics - Print Format

What is Print Format Reserve?

Print Format Reserve is a collection of high demand items for short-term use in the Library.

  • Access via Primo Search. Main access points are Subject Code, Title, and Author.
  • Reserve items are held at the Library Loans Desk, except at Bathurst and Albury-Wodonga Campuses, which have self-service reserve areas.
  • Reserve items can be borrowed for up to 2 hours for use within the Library.
  • Items may be available for overnight loan. Enquire at the Loans or Ask Us help desks.
  • Copies (up to 10% to comply with copyright) can be made and posted to off-campus students.

Copies of articles or chapters of books are no longer added to print Reserve. These materials are to be placed on eReserve. The Division of Learning & Teaching Services (LTS) will advise on procedures for making readings available. Further information can be found at the Electronic Format Reserve Information Sheet for Academics.

Lecture notes or non-copyright materials that are created by academic staff can be made available via Interact.

How do I place material on Reserve?

To place books and AV items on Reserve academic staff should contact the Ask Us help desk on each campus.

  • Please assemble and provide books and AV items to the Library at least one week before start of each semester.
  • During semester provide any additional books and AV items at least one week in advance to allow adequate time for processing.
  • Complete a Reserve Request Slip for each item.
  • Citations must be accurate and consistent with references in the student reading lists.
  • "Personal copies" of books and AV items may be placed on Reserve.

Academics are responsible for the selection of Reserve resources.
Print Format Reserve items are returned to the Library collection at the end of each semester.

What about Copyright?

The licence that the University holds permits the making available of electronic copies of printed materials under the conditions set down by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). All copyright materials need to be processed by the Library or LTS and should not be placed on Subject Forums or Academic WebPages.

The same limitations that apply to print copies also apply to electronic copies, i.e. generally no more than 10% or one chapter of a work, or one article from a journal issue, may be put online. The University's licence also only enables it to put one part of a work online at a time. For example, if a chapter of a book is already online, then another chapter of the book cannot be put online until after the first chapter is taken down.

Further information on how much of an item can be put online can be found at www.csu.edu.au/copyright or by contacting the Copyright Coordinator.

The Library will not include material in its Reserve collection (print or electronic) that breaches the Act.
