Information and Reporting Systems

Do our students receive their assignments back as quickly as we promise?

How broad is the take-up of online marking?

Do students find assignment feedback useful?

What is the student usage of Interact, ePortfolio, Online Meeting, Turnitin etc?

These are the types of questions that we aim to answer more systematically and thoroughly through our recent consolidation of information and reporting functions in two roles under the leadership of Nadine McKeown, Manager Learning and Teaching Information and Reporting Systems.

The LTS subject preparation and assignment management database, a wide range of educational technology statistics used in conjunction with CSU’s Banner and CASIMS data, potentially provides a very rich source of information about learning and teaching at CSU. As the University places increasing reliance on KPIs to set quality targets and monitor current performance, we aim to make the information in these systems accessible and meaningful to academic managers on a school, discipline and course basis. It will also inform the operational and long-term strategic planning within LTS.

Reporting in 2011 supported the introduction of the CSU Common Teaching Standards with formal school-based performance reports on the following:

In the longer term we aim to consolidate and automate information and reporting system functions so that academic managers can answer their teaching performance and management questions as they arise. We have already received positive and helpful feedback from the Faculties to make the data more relevant and meaningful.
