Faculty and School input is fundamental to the success of information we deliver to both prospective students and the broader community. We encourage you to contact us to discuss marketing strategies or promotional activities you may be considering.

The following is a brief overview of activities and responsibilities of Prospective Student Advisers (PSAs).

Student Recruitment
PSAs travel extensively throughout regional and metropolitan Australia to promote distance education and on campus undergraduate and postgraduate courses. During a typical recruitment period PSAs spend six months working off campus attending recruitment activities and building professional relationships. Each year Charles Sturt University is represented nationally to approximately 65,000 potential students.

School Visits – PSAs play a central role in the relationship between schools and Charles Sturt University, visiting around 200 schools within the CSU area and further afield each year to provide careers counselling and extensive information on tertiary opportunities for students. For many schools, CSU PSAs are the only university representatives that students meet personally.

Careers Advisers –Careers Advisers are one of the most influential gatekeepers of secondary school students. PSAs develop long term professional and personal relationships with careers advisers and other staff in regional and metropolitan schools, and are active members of their local Careers Advisers Associations. An E-Newsletter is sent to Careers Advisers in NSW and Victoria at least once a term.

Parents – Parents play a similar role to Careers Advisers in their influence on students’ tertiary choices. PSAs develop strong relationships with students’ families through attendance at school parent evenings, open day every day tours and individual consultations.

Career Markets – The PSA team organise, manage and represent CSU at more than 30 Careers and Tertiary Expo’s nationally. Attendance at a single Expo can vary from 100 to in excess of 20,000 potential students.

Distance Education – In addition to attending Career Markets, PSAs attend events that attract non school leavers, and conduct information sessions after business hours to ensure maximum access to information. We provide individual counselling in person or by telephone, and have input into the strategic marketing activities of other teams in the Division.

Postgraduate – As with DE we also attend a national circuit of specialist Postgraduate Expos. We provide individual counselling in person or by telephone, and have input into the strategic marketing activities of other teams in the Division.

Regional Universities’ Roadshow (RUR) – This cooperative initiative with three other regional universities gives PSAs access to large audiences in strategically important areas of NSW, and promotes the benefits of attending a regional university. In addition, RUR holds annual information sessions for Sydney Careers Advisers.

TAFE – The demand for pathways from TAFE to University has increased dramatically. PSAs work with CSU Faculties and TAFE staff and students to promote articulation between TAFE and university, and actively promote existing CSU / TAFE jointly offered courses.

open day every day open day every day is one of the University’s most successful recruitment programs. PSAs are responsible for the recruitment, training and monitoring of student tour guides, and manage, coordinate and supervise the open day every day program.

On Campus Activities – PSAs promote, develop and conduct on campus programs for Year 10, 11 and 12 students, and develop and conduct Careers Advisers visits and seminars at CSU campuses.

Other Roles
UAC / VTAC Guides - PSAs are responsible for organising and compiling CSU’s entries in the University Admission Centre (UAC) guide, UAC Year 10 Booklet and the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) guide, and also contribute to the NAPSA ‘Where Do You Do It’ publication.

Professional Bodies – PSAs are members of NSW National Association of Prospective Student Advisers (NAPSA), the NSW Careers Advisers’ Association and the Career Education Association of Victoria (CAEV) and sit on the Executive Committee of the Victorian Tertiary Information Service (TIS).

Promotion Planning – PSAs provide advice to Faculties, Course Coordinators and others on student recruitment trends and opportunities for course marketing and promotion, including recommending and implementing new student recruitment strategies.

Direct Mail / Email – We are developing a direct marketing process as a strategic and cost effective method of distributing information to prospective students in a timely and effective manner.

Professional Partnerships – PSAs work within our communities to develop relationships with local industries and businesses to build positive connections with the University and assist in creating pathways for potential students.
