Australian Council for Educational Research The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) is an independent, not-for-profit research company providing support to education policy makers and professional practitioners. This organisation currently develops and manages two key surveys, the Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE) and the Graduate Pathways Survey (GPS). CSU’s results in these surveys and links to national results are available.

Admission Statistics Weekly reports on applications, offers and acceptances to CSU courses by session, fund source, mode and application method.

Attrition(Cohort Tracking ) This report follows each cohort of students for each year of study and reports on the following groups within each cohort:

  • Completed in the course: the number of students in the cohort that have completed the course in which they commenced.
  • Retained in course: the number of students in the cohort that are still studying in the course in which they commenced.
  • Lost from university: the number of students in the cohort that did not complete the course in which they commenced and are no longer studying any course at CSU.
  • Cohort total: the total number of students that commenced in the cohort.
  • Completion percent: the percentage of the cohort that has completed the course in which they commenced.
  • Attrition percent: the percentage of the cohort that have been lost from CSU.
  • Completed other course: the number of students in the cohort that have completed a course at CSU other than the course in which they first commenced.
  • Studying other course: the number of students in the cohort that are studying a course at CSU other than the course in which they originally commenced.
A simplified version of this report focusing on first year attrition is also available. First year attrition is a key quality indicator.

AUSSE The Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE) is developed and managed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and was designed to stimulate evidence-focused conversations about students’ engagement in university study.

Australian Graduate Survey (AGS) The Australian Graduate Survey (AGS) collects information on the main destinations and the higher education experiences of graduates shortly after they qualify, and provides institutions taking part in the survey with a range of information about their graduates. The survey results provide data for three reports, the Graduate Destination Survey (GDS), Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and Best Aspect and Needs Improvement comment analysis (AGS Comments).

Completions Shows completions from courses and faculties.The report can be modified to view enrolments across a number of dimensions, including: age, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI), attendance mode/type, campus, course level, cohort, course, faculty and domesticity. This report is based on Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Student Collection data specifications.

Course Availability Listing (CAL) The Course Availability Listing (CAL) is the definitive list of Award Courses with planned intakes as approved by the University Council Planning Committee (UCPC) prior to commencement of the session. Each intake are known as ‘planned intakes’ and each is described on the CAL in terms of the session of intake, the campus for course delivery, the mode of study, the manner in which the student is funded (fund source), and the application type (e.g. Direct, University Admissions Centre (UAC)).

This information forms the basis of the Campus File, reported as part of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Student Collection

Course Enrolments This report shows enrolments in courses and faculties. The report can be modified to view enrolments across a number of dimensions, including: course, faculty, campus, course level, fund source, mode of study, enrolment status and various student demographics. Course Experience Questionnaire TheCourse Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) collects graduates perceptions of their higher education experience and contains statements relating to graduates’ perceptions of their course. Respondents are asked to rate their level of agreement with these statements on a five-point scale (one standing for ‘Strongly Disagree’ and five for ‘Strongly Agree’). The level of agreement in the Overall Satisfaction Index , Good Teaching and Generic Skills scales are key quality indicators. The Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) is part of the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS), which contains two other components, the Graduate Destination Survey(GDS) and the free comments analysis on Best Aspects and Needs Improvement (CEQuery).

Course History Report The Course History Report matches admissions data (applications, offers and acceptances) with commencing enrolments for an offering of a course from 2009. This provides a time series showing demand for a course over time, and the historical levels of attrition through the admissions process for each course. .

Course Load This report shows the load studied by students allocated to schools on the basis of the subjects taught. The report can be modified to view Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL) or Weighted Equivalent Full Time Study Load (WFTSL) across a number of dimensions, including: subject, school, faculty, field of education, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Cluster, fund source, course, course level, subject mode, session, campus and commencing status. The report can also be used to understand Teaching Load, Progress Rates and Subject Enrolments. This report is based on DEEWR Student Collection data specifications.

Course Report This report shows various key statistics for each active course over the last three years. These data include: demand, student characteristics, attrition and progress rates, and performance in various surveys.
CSU Discipline Profile Each year the University reports on teaching load and income, staff Full Time Equivalent (FTE) and costs, research outputs and student evaluations by Charles Sturt University Discipline Codes (CSUDC).

CSU Regions of Interest The University classifies regions across Australia in to CSU Regions of Interest. Each region is searchable by postcode and shows student enrolment numbers by campus and mode. Course Enrolments and Teaching Load reports also contain CSU Regions of Interest filters, as well as Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) geographic categories.

CSU Statistical Profile The Statistical Profile is a summary view of the University's data over the last five years, grouped in categories: load, headcount, and completions by fund source, mode and location. The report also contains staff numbers.

ERA The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) submission is administered by the and assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts.

Equity Groups Only domestic award level students are included when measuring equity groups. This report is a view of the Course Enrolment report configured to show only these students with Gender, Non English Speaking Background (NESB), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI), Socioeconomic status (SES) Status and Disability filters pre-selected.

Faculty Allocations This report shows the funding allocated to faculties on the basis of Commonwealth Grant Scheme (CGS) Load.

Faculty Funding Faculties are funded largely on the basis of the teaching load they carry. Separate arrangements are used to fund load from Commonwealth Grant Scheme (CGS) students and the various types of fee paying students. This report contains information on the breakdown of the Faculty Funding budget.

First Year Attrition This report breaks down each cohort of students in their first year of study into the following groups:

  • Completed in the course: the number of students in the cohort that have completed the course in which they commenced.
  • Retained in course: the number of students in the cohort that are still studying in the course in which they commenced.
  • Lost from university: the number of students in the cohort that did not complete the course in which they commenced and are no longer studying any course at CSU. Cohort total: the total number of students that commenced in the cohort.

Funding Basis This report shows the Commonwealth Supported Load that contributed to the Funding Allocation.

Funding Model This report is an extended Teaching Load report which includes income from student contributions and fees, income from the Commonwealth contribution, Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL) and Weighted Equivalent Full Time Study Load (WFTSL), plus the various funding arrangements (Bands and Clusters) over time.

Graduate Pathway Survey The Graduate Pathways Survey (GPS) captures information relating to graduates’ perception of their degree, relevance of their study to their careers, and their educational and workforce participation over the five years following completion of their bachelor degree, in addition to respondents’ demographic characteristics and bachelor degree(s). This survey is conducted by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), in addition to the Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE) survey.

Graduate Destination Survey This survey gathers information about the activity of graduates four months after the completion of their course, in particular the type of work, further study, job search methods and the type of work (if any) they may have undertaken during their course. The Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) is part of the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS), which contains two other components, the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and the free comments analysis on Best Aspects and Needs Improvement (CEQuery).

Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) The Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) contains information regarding research income and publications and is reported annually.

Load Projections The load projection model forecasts student load three to four years out from the current year. The model enables load to be projected by Course Level, Course Name, Teaching Load Faculty, Course Load Faculty, CSU Discipline, Cluster, Teaching School, Campus and Fund Source.

National Data This report is based on Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Student Collection data specifications and shows student load, enrolments, course level and Australian Standard Classification of Education (ASCED) FoE, and various student demographics for all Australian Higher Education Institutions.

Progress Rates Progress Rates are the proportion of successfully completed subjects compared to subjects attempted, calculated in terms of Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL). Progress Rates are a key quality indicator.

Regional Summary This report contains information on University Admissions Centre (UAC) first preferences for regions within CSU’s geographic footprint. First preferences for CSU and other institutions are analysed by Regions of Interest, School and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

This report shows the sum of all fractional positions at CSU and Casual staff data are aggregated at the end of each year and reported in the following year. This report is based on Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Staff Collection data specifications.

Student Experience Questionnaire (SEQ) The Student Experience Questionnaire (SEQ) was introduced to examine undergraduate student satisfaction levels in their first year of study. The survey contains similar, but not identical, scales to the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ). This report provides early feedback from students to allow enhancements to be made to various aspects of their course.

Student/Staff Ratios The report shows the ratio of CSU teaching staff to student load, by school, taking into account the various third party and contractual teaching arrangements.

Subject Course Interaction This report shows the interaction of subjects studied by students and the courses they are enrolled in. This report can be used to understand both the subjects taken by students in a particular course and the courses which utilise particular subjects and the numbers of enrolments in each.
