University Experience Survey (UES)
In 2011, the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) commissioned a Consortium led by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and including the University of Melbourne's Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) and the Griffith Institute for Higher Education (GIHE) to develop an instrument and methodology for a new national survey of the experience of university students—the University Experience Survey (UES).
Originally developed as an instrument and method for allocating performance-based funds for continuous quality improvement, the future direction for the UES is likely to be as a public reporting tool regarding students' experience of higher education. It may be included in the 'MyUniversity' website and could be used as an internal reporting tool for universities themselves.
The survey was designed to focus on aspects of the student experience that are measurable, that are linked with learning and development outcomes and that universities could reasonably be assumed to have responsibility.
The first national round of the UES was conducted in 2012.
