Information you need to know
The Assessment Regulations (Part G of the Academic Manual) cover the CSU requirements in matters pertaining to assessment. Section 17 of the Assessment Regulations is dedicated to Examinations.Please check these Regulations first if you have any queries or concerns.
If you are allowed to take other materials to your exam, permitted materials will be indicated in your eBox notice. Internal students should contact their subject coordinator for information on what materials are permitted into the exam room.
Q. What happens if I miss my examination?
A. If a student is prevented from attending an examination on a scheduled date due to illness or misadventure they have three working days to request a Supplementary Examination (SX). Supporting documentation must accompany the request. Use the
Q. I think my exam performance has been compromised. How do I apply for special consideration?
A. You apply for special consideration using the Special Consideration form. Your application must be supported with documentation including the Student Medical Certificate if you believe your performance has been compromised for medical reasons.
On-Campus students may hand-deliver their application to Student Central, otherwise post to Student Administration.
Check the Special Consideration Regulations (sections 4 and 5 particularly) and the Assessment regulations for further information.
Q. I require special conditions under which to complete my examination. What should I do?
A. Students with a disability seeking special conditions in an examination must register with the Disability Service, providing documentation from a relevant health professional. Special examination conditions may be considered as part of a study access plan.
When do you need to start making these arrangements?
- For intra-session tests, students must submit their request by the end of week 2 of the teaching session.
- For end of session examinations, requests must be made by the end of week 6 of the teaching session. Applications received after this timeframe may be considered if extenuating circumstances apply.
Exam Timetable Information
End-of-Session examinations are held in the final 2 weeks of sesson for Session 1 and 2 and in the final week of session in Session 3. You can check the exact dates for the current year in the Principal Dates.
The draft examination timetable is released approximately 8 weeks prior to the Examination period and you have a 2 week period in which to lodge any objections with Student Central. The final Examination Timetable is prepared approximately 6 weeks prior to the exam period.

Internal Students: The exam timetable (day and time) is displayed at Student Central. However you will also need to check the On Campus Venue List here carefully and prior to the exam period.
Distance students: A notice will be sent to your eBox advising of the date and time of your exams. Some of our exam venues have differing start times, so please note carefully the start time for your venue.
Your eBox notice is your official examination notification and sets out details of your examinations for the current session. Please read it carefully.

Venue Information
Q. Where do I attend my examination?
A.View the full list of current CSU Exam Centres for distance education students. Internal students are expected to sit their examinations on the campus where their classes have been held.
You must attend the examination centre shown on your notice and your examination paper will be sent to that exam centre. If there are compelling reasons which necessitate you changing to another centre after the closing date for requesting a change (6 weeks prior to the exam period), contact Student Central immediately.Late fees may be incurred to change centre.
Distance education students
Your eBox notice contains the specific details of your venue. For some of our distance education venues, a map or detailed location instructions have been provided. Please check here to see if your venue has extra information or other important notices.
Internal students
Your venue information is provided on the On Campus Venue List and you are expected to sit your examination at the campus where you have attended classes.
Q. I changed my address, but my exam centre hasn't changed How do I change my examination centre?
A. A change of address does not automatically change your examination centre. You need to change your address separately. You can change your Exam Centre using the Student Administration Online, but if you have any problems contact Student Central immediately.
Q. Can I have my own examination centre?
A. Distance Education students living within 120 kilometres of an established examination centre are expected to attend that centre. If you are further than 120 kms from an exam centre, you should contact Student Central about alternative arrangements.
Q. What if I'm moving overseas?
A. CSU maintains a number of Exam Centres overseas. If you cannot find an existing centre to meet your needs, please contact Student Central to discuss your alternatives. Remember that changes to your Exam Centre must be made as early as possible; check the Principal Dates for the closing date for the current year.
Q. I am an internal student. Can I take my examinations at an external centre?
A. Internal students are expected to attend their examinations at the campus on which their classes were held except where course requirements necessitate their absence from the University during the examination period. Should you be required to be off campus for your course during the exam period, please contact Student Central for advice regarding your exam centre.
RESULTS
Results from end-of-session exams are available approximately 2 weeks after the end of the examination period. Check the Principal Dates for the exact dates for the current year.
Results are sent to your e-box prior to release online; so check your e-box messages in the first instance. Once results released online you can check results here. See the list of possible grades here.
Q. How do I seek a review of my final grade?
A. Students wishing to seek a review of the final grade awarded to them in a subject can submit an Application for Review of Grade. You should consult with your Subject Coordinator prior to submitting the application. A separate application should be lodged for each subject.
An application for a review of a passing grade should be accompanied by the current fee applicable, which is refundable should the application be successful.
No fee is payable for an application for a review of a failing grade (providing the application is received within 14 days of grade notification).
Applications must be lodged within 14 days of the date of notification of the grade.

Q. What does TA or *** mean and when will my grade be resolved?
A. A TA or *** grade (To be Assessed) means your result is not yet available. A substantive grade will be available when received from your Subject Coordinator or overseas partner.
Q. Who do I contact about my actual marks for exams or assignments?
A. You will need to contact the Subject Coordinator of the particular subject.
Supplementary Exams or Additional Examinations
Q. I have a SX grade. What happens now?
A. A SX (Supplementary Examination) grade is granted for a subject on the basis of misadventure or extenuating circumstances which prevented a student sitting an official examination or which adversely affected the student's performance in an official examination.

Q. I have an AA or AE grade. What do I do now?
A. An AA (Additional Assessment) or AE (Additional Examination) grade means you have been offered additional assessment in a subject.
If you accept an additional examination, it will be held in the next available examination period. Student Administration will send you further details via an ebox notice prior to the next examination period
