Frequently Asked Questions

Term and Session Codes

Q. What is a Term (Session) Code?

A. A Term (Session) Code is a numerical representation of a specific session within a year. It is a combination of the year and another number which identifies the session. You will study either in Autumn and Spring (and possibly Summer) sessions or in Trimesters 1, 2 and 3, depending on the structure of your course. For example:

Term Code Session Description Dates
From To
200970 Spring 27/07/2009 27/11/2009
200979 Trimester 3 31/08/2009 27/11/2009
201003 Trimester 3A 19/10/2009 15/01/2010
201010 Summer 23/11/2009 05/02/2010
201015 Term 2 11/01/2010 30/04/2010
201030 Session 1 01/03/2010 18/06/2010

Please note that although summer session commences in November/December, the year you should enter is the following year. Eg. Summer session commencing in late November 2007 should be entered as 200810.

Q. Why are the numbers used to identify the semester so different?

A. These are spread between 0 - 100 so that there can be extra semesters added if required at a future date. They are designed to relate to a given period within each year.
