Q. How do I know which subjects to enrol in?
A. You should refer to your course structure in the online Handbook or online course brochure and then check the Subject Availability List to see whether the subjects you wish to enrol in are available in the session and mode you require. If you are still unsure, you should contact your Course Coordinator or Liaison Officer. Click to obtain a list of Liaison Officers for the various schools.
Q. What is a Course Reference Number (CRN)?
A. CRN's are a simple and immediate way of representing a session offering, a campus and a study mode, for a particular subject using a unique number.
These unique identifying numbers are required to support the expanding trimester enrolments and to accommodate interactive online technologies.
Q. How do you use CRN's?
A. Since the CRN is linked to a specific Term (Session) Code, we must be careful to specify the exact Term (Session) Code that we are interested in when using CRN's. For example;
| Term Code | CRN | Subject CodeĀ | Subject NameĀ | Campus | Mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200740 | 2878 | AGB233 | Agribusiness Management | W | D |
| 200770 | 5002 | FIN211 | Financial Management | B | D |
Q. Does a subject always have the same CRN?
A. No. Since a CRN represents a particular offering of a subject, it is more than just another subject code. If we change any of the associated information as shown above, then we would expect to see a new CRN for that offering.
Q. How do I find a CRN or a subject description?
A. Go to the Subject Availability Web page. When using this facility, if you have trouble finding the subject you are trying to look for, try searching in only the following fields:
YEAR Eg. 2008
TERM ID Eg. 70
PREFIX Eg. ECO
NUMBER Eg. 110
Leave all the other fields as "%"
This will then show you ALL the available offerings and their appropriate CRN for the subject you are interested in.
Having accessed the desired subject availability record you can click on the subject code to view the Prerequisite requirements and obtain a subject description. You can also click on the Campus and view Residential School or Internal Timetable details.
Q. Obtaining credit status for a subject.
A. For information regarding how to obtain credit status for a subject, put your request in writing, attach a certified copy of supporting documentation and submit it to your Liaison Officer in Student Administration. The Officer you should contact will depend on the campus and School you are associated with. Click to obtain a list of Liaison Officers for the various schools.
Q. What is a subject mode?
A. The mode describes the way a student receives tuition. The modes used at Charles Sturt University are:
- D = Distance
- I = Internal
- T = Tutorial
