Credit / Recognition of Prior Learning
If you are interested in studying a course at CSU, you may receive credit for your previous study. The credit you receive will depend on the study you have completed. Although some courses have established credit arrangements, generally credit is assessed on an individual basis with the Course Coordinator reviewing each application.
A Credit Transfer Search is a new addition to the Admissions Office systems and is available online for applicants to query the possible credit that they may receive for previous studies into a particular course.
Credit for prior learning is awarded in accordance with the CSU credit regulations
When and how to apply for credit
Prospective students making a direct application to the University need to apply for credit (recognition of prior learning) at the time of application. Eligibility for credit and the extent of any credit granted is determined simultaneously with the determination of eligibility to the course and prior to an offer being generated. When you receive an offer you will be notified of what credit has been awarded.
Applicants applying through UAC or VTAC will have credit determined just before commencement of the course, however Course Coordinators will be able to discuss potential credit with applicants.
Prospective students must supply a verified copy of transcripts (not individual results notices or web downloads) showing the completion of your studies and the grades achieved.
Special TAFE arrangements for specific studies
Some courses require completion of specific TAFE studies to meet the entry requirements of the CSU course eg BTeach (0-5yrs) and some Vocational Education and Training courses. If it is an entry requirement then successful applicants will automatically be awarded credit in the CSU degree upon proof of successful completion of the TAFE studies.
Other courses.
Eg. Bachelor of Business will award credit upon completion of TAFE studies, but the extent of that credit varies with the Bachelor of Business strand and the TAFE studies completed.
Credit may be awarded for specific subjects, for a number of electives or level of subjects.
Eg.
- ACC100 – Accounting 1 or
- XYZ01C – 1 unspecified elective or
- EDU32C – Education Studies credit 32 points (4 subjects)
You should include full documentation of all courses you have completed in your application for admission to a course.
